ZUO HANG
"I hope you're not here to make a mess." I lowered my gaze at the short haired girl in front of me. She bravely raised her eyes against me, grinning like what she did was something to be proud of.
"You weren't answering my calls or responding to my messages. If being a disturbance grabs your attention, then so be it."
"Fighting my boys could've been tolerable. But I don't like how you scared an innocent girl, Zarina." I was serious when I spoke. Florianne was so frightened that night. I even watched her to sleep just to assure she'll be fine.
Zarina smiled at me playfully. She has a small figure but only few men could actually defeat her when it comes to fighting. It was no wonder that my grandfather ships her with me when he has nothing better to do.
"That girl cannot benefit you in any ways. I'm surprised you're still letting her walk in this world of misery. You should end her torment."
My eyes narrowed at her. Zarina is like a siren who speaks to you with some kind of spell in her voice.
She closed the distance between us and held both of my elbows. "If only she opened that stupid door, I would have finished the job for you."
"You do not touch her in any way."
I grievously spoke, hinting threat if she disobeys. Her eyes turned into slits. "Why, Zuo Hang? Does she mean anything else to you other than a mission?" She sneaked her hand on top of my nape. "Is she turning into the person who I'm supposed to be?"
I held her arm and pulled it from touching me. Disappointment and danger crossed in her eyes. She looked at me like I did something punishable.
"So she does mean something more to you." She let out a sarcastic laugh, looking away from me. "I'm gonna slit that girl's neck."
"Stop talking nonsense," I beamed. She's speaking like there's something between us and its annoying me. Just because Zivar wants her for me doesn't mean I actually like her. And its not like I'll let her get anywhere close to Lori.
"Scare that innocent girl once again and you'll see what fear actually tastes like." I warned.
Pain struck her eyes but she smiled at me-bitterly. "I won't. So long as you stay with me."
"What?"
The bitterness in her lips faded, she smiled even wider that evilness could be sensed. "I'm having a great mission. I want you to come with me and finish it together."
"You don't need my help."
"Ofcourse I don't. But I'm sure you want to let your girl sleep in peace." She grinned. "You don't want her to suffer the series of troubles you yourself brought."
I scoffed and raised my chin. "I can protect her."
"You can't protect her from yourself."
My mouth halted from letting out a word. Her eyes twinkled in triumph of silencing me.
"Let me remind you, Zuo Hang. Arthur Cortez. That man tried to kill you ever since you were a child. He didn't want you to be the next in Zivar's throne. You have been living in fear because of him and now look where you are. You hate your grandfather, but you have no choice because you need the power and influence he has."
My breathing sped up. This girl is really testing my patience. "Don't speak like you know me. I hate people who do that. Honestly, I'm really hating you right now."
"I don't mind. At least you're feeling something for me." She chuckled.
"So, are you coming with me for the mission? Or do you want this day to be that Lori girl's last?"
