Chapter 2

We make our way towards our lockers and quickly grab the books we need while Carol was busy going on and on about how hot Stefan and Damon are. Wait until she sees Klaus I thought to myself. I put the books and my phone in my backpack after putting the phone in silent mode.

When I turn around, I see everyone on their phones, scrolling through something.
Some were laughing while others were looking at each other skeptically.

"Guys, did you look at the news??", Owen came running towards us.
Owen is my other friend and this completes our trio. He has been with us since 6th grade. He had just transferred to this school during that time and was having a hard time making friends.
So, Carol and I decided to talk to him and the rest is history.

"No." Carol replied.

"Is it about that fake zombie crisis?" I mocked.

"Look for yourself." Owen said while handing us his phone.

It was a local news channel presenting a video, the footage showed chaotic scenes where people were being chased by other people who had a typical zombie makeover.

"They're just pulling a stunt for views." I stated.

Carol, looked up from the phone, her brow furrowed with concern. "Jade, this doesn't sound like a joke. It's all over the news and websites. People are getting sick."

I waved my hand dismissively. "Come on, Carol. It's probably just a bad flu season or something. They'll figure it out, and life will go on as usual."

But Carol persisted, "I think we should at least check the latest updates and be cautious. It's better to be safe than sorry."

I sighed, reluctantly reaching for my phone. "Fine, let's see what they're saying." I opened a news app and saw that the outbreak was indeed making headlines, with reports of increasing cases.

My curiosity grew, but I still couldn't shake the feeling that this was being blown out of proportion. "See, Carol, it's just fear-mongering. I'm sure they'll find a vaccine or something."

Carol glanced at me, worry etched on her face. "I hope you're right, Jade. But, maybe it wouldn't hurt to be a bit more prepared, just in case."

"I don't know what to believe guys, did you see all that blood and god! Look at the-" Owen stopped mid-sentence.
"Look at what Owen?" Carol asked.

We looked at Owen and he kept starring at the screen.

When we looked into the phone,
The so called zombies were killing people by eating out the flesh from their neck and other parts of their bodies.
It was gruesome.

"RUN!!!! EVERYBODY RUN!!!!".

We looked at the end of the hallway, from where the voice was coming from.

Noah, a guy we share our music class with, comes running down the hallway.

"Guys- Run!. Zombies!. They're everywhere!!!" He voices out, while trying to breathe.

"Dude, shut it. It's November, not April!" A random guy in the hallway speaks up

"Yeah, stop fooling around, you really believe that zombies exist?"Another guy speaks up.

While some were laughing and others were shaking their heads, a loud shriek was heard.
We all turned our heads towards the direction of the shriek.
What I witnessed next made my blood run cold.
The hair on the back of my head stood up.

Noah wasn't standing anymore.
He was being eaten by something or someone. Before I know, a group of those stumbled into our hallway.

"Jade, you were talking about a bad flu or something" Carol asked, as fear laced her voice.

The next thing I know, they are sprinting over to our direction.

"SHIT"
