Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God! Thank you for 70+ reads.
In advance: This chapter will probably be a bit shorter than my previous ones because I'll mainly write about the game against Nekoma, so please understand (^_^)
_______________________________________________________________On the morning after Yachi's tutoring, Hinata wakes up very late. He came back late from the tutoring and couldn't fall asleep because there was a strong storm outside. With a glance out the window, the redhead notices that the storm seems to have moved on, but thick raindrops continue to pelt the glass panes. He sinks back into his pillows. Today is Saturday. Actually a good thing, except for the training. He loves playing Quidditch just as much as he loves training, no matter the weather, but it's almost impossible to play in such heavy rain. On the other hand, he wants to train because if Yachi saw him sitting in the common room, she would surely push him to do his homework. Hinata drags himself out of bed and shuffles down to the Great Hall. The house tables are nearly empty, and there are not many treats left on the breakfast plates. The students who are still there are either chatting happily or reading something. Only Lev at the Nekoma table seems to be asleep while sitting. Hinata waves to him as he passes by, stifling a yawn, but Lev doesn't seem to notice him. On the other hand, Bokuto from the Fukuroudani table waves back cheerfully. Looking at the clock, the redhead realizes how lucky he is that breakfast is served longer on weekends. Otherwise, he would have had to wait for lunch on an empty stomach. Since the rest of the Quidditch team and all his friends have already left, he has to eat breakfast alone. He quickly gulps down a few bites, grabs a cup of cocoa, and retreats to his room. He slips into a comfy sweater and sweatpants before settling in the common room with his broom care kit and his beloved Firebolt to take care of it. The redhead starts polishing his broom to a shine and trims the upcoming twigs. Just as he's about to make the handle shine with the polish, he hears the common room door swing open.
"Hinata Shoyo!" he hears a voice say. "I told you: if you have nothing to do, study!"
Even without turning around, Hinata knows who is scolding him.
"Yachi! What a coincidence! I was just about to get my books-"
But he doesn't get any further because Yachi interrupts him mid-sentence:
"Oh, nonsense! You're getting your books right now and studying! I better not catch you again!"
Shamefaced, Hinata trudges to his dorm room to get the books he needs. Yachi remains downstairs, shaking her head. Hinata thinks he has been scolded without his comrades knowing, but he overlooks Tanaka sitting in a corner. As he passes by him, Tanaka whispers with a broad grin on his face:
"You got caught, my friend!"
"Shut up!" mutters the redhead, but he can't help but grin too.
Time jump: Quidditch practice
"Come on! Or we'll start without you!"
Hinata runs towards the Quidditch field with his broom in hand, where his teammates are already waiting for him. At Daichi's words, Hinata tries to run even faster, but it ends with a belly flop in the mud. For his little performance, Hinata receives hearty laughter. Finally, Karasuno can start training, but not for long because due to the torrential rain pouring from the sky, it becomes impossible to train after a short while. Instead, the team makes themselves comfortable in the clubhouse, where they discuss tactics for the upcoming match against Nekoma, which is only a few days away. The rest of the week flies by, and before both teams know it, the day of the match has arrived. The game is scheduled for Saturday on the Quidditch field. The weather improves, and the rain subsides, so on the day of the game, the sun is shining. Karasuno and Nekoma both field their usual lineups; Daichi, Kageyama, and Asahi as Chasers, Tsukki and Tanaka as Beaters. Noya as Keeper, and Hinata as Seeker. Nekoma has Kuroo, Kai, and Fukunaga as Chasers, Yamamoto and Lev as Beaters, and Yaku as Keeper with Kenma as Seeker. Coach Nekomata serves as the referee. When both teams have gathered in a circle, he takes to the air on his broom, clutching the wooden chest containing the balls tightly under his arm. Before releasing the Quaffle, the captains exchange greetings. After a 'May the best team win!' from both teams, Nekomata opens the chest, releasing the Snitch (which initially flits around the heads of the two Seekers before disappearing like lightning) and the Bludgers. Then the whistle blows, and with the throw-in of the Quaffle, the match begins. Even before the Quaffle reaches its highest point, Kageyama has shot forward and grabbed the leather ball. He quickly weaves through the opposing players, but when he realizes he's surrounded, he passes the ball in a high arc to Asahi, who makes a run for the goal. He winds up, and Yaku, one of the school's best Keepers, has calculated the trajectory and covers the hoops. Asahi notices this too. With coordinated evasive maneuvers, he changes his flight path and passes to Daichi, who had been waiting next to one of the goals and skillfully scores despite visible effort. The magical scoreboard floating on the right side of the field shows 10:0 for Karasuno. But Kuroo quickly snatches the Quaffle and races across the field, ducking under a Bludger sent his way by Tanaka and almost scoring, but Nishinoya reacts quickly. He deflects the ball with a skillful dive maneuver that ends in a roll (the so-called 'rolling thunder') away from its path. However, before he can regain control, Fukunaga has already caught the deflected Quaffle and scores cleanly. It's a tie now. Karasuno is in possession of the ball again, but when a Bludger heads towards Daichi, he can only narrowly dodge it, dropping the Quaffle right into the hands of Kai flying below him. Kai heads for the Karasuno goal and takes aim. Nishinoya notices a moment too late and can't stop the ball. Another goal for Nekoma.
Time passes, and by now, it's 50:10 for Nekoma. Hinata, who has been observing the entire game while slowly circling the field, notices out of the corner of his eye that Kenma is flying rapidly towards the ground. Apparently, he has spotted the Snitch. Hinata quickly chases after his opponent. He keeps glancing at Kenma, who seems confident, although dive maneuvers are Hinata's weakest flying skill. When he glances at Kenma just a meter above the ground, he realizes that Kenma is smiling contentedly
and then ascends again."Darn it!" Hinata thinks. "That's the Wronski Feint! He didn't even see the Snitch!"
But it's too late. Hinata can slow down his pace slightly before landing with a dull thud on the ground. He lies there for a moment before picking himself up and mounting his broom again. He quickly takes to the air to continue searching for the golden Snitch. In the meantime, Karasuno scores three more goals, and Noya prevents the worst from happening. Kuroo scores the 60:40 for Nekoma just as Kenma, for real this time, spots the Snitch and goes after it. Although Hinata pushes his Firebolt to the limit, he can't catch up to Kenma. Kenma quickly extends his hand and closes his fingers around the fluttering ball. The game ends with a score of 210:40 in favor of Nekoma.
_______________________________________________________________Oops. It got longer than I thought. Thank you for reading my story. I'm genuinely excited 'bout it. The Wronski Feint comes from the 1994 Quidditch World Cup final between Ireland and Bulgaria :)
