chapter 4: day at the Grall

day 4 at Blight Manor/ Wednesday

Its been a day since I saw Luz, and Emira told me that she knew I was the golden guard. Yesterday I spent the whole day chilling with Edric because he didn't care if he got in trouble. I woke up today to see Edric still asleep because as usual I am awake before him, I look at the clock next to my makeshift bed and I'm surprised to see that it is 4 in the morning. That means I slept for 6 hours, I got out of bed proud of myself and I go to the library across from Edric's room. I start to read my favourite book Ruler's Reach and as I finish it, it's 7 in the morning. I sneakily head back into Edric's room before anyone woke up.

When I walk into the room I notice Edric is still sleeping. I smile 'He looks so cute when he is sleeping,' I think to myself then I blush 'I mean he looks good when he sleeps' I correct myself. Flapjack looks confused at my blush but seems to brush it off and goes to sleep in my hair. 'Why do people like sleep anyway,' I thought 'it's honestly just a waste of time. I could be doing much more productive things then sleep. But Edric says that if I don't sleep he will put a sleeping spell on me and that is not fun and wastes more time for me.'

While I was thinking I notice Edric waking up. "Did you have a nice sleep sleepy head?" I tease.

"Yes, but the real question is did you sleep?" Edric counters playfully.

"Do you have that much doubt in me I'll have you know I slept 6 hours last night." I say proudly hoping that Edric will be proud too. He gives me a smile looking slightly surprised but proud.

"Soon my young friend-" Edric starts to say when I cut him off.

"We are the same age" I interrupt and Edric smiles mischievously when I say that.

"Physically we are the same age but mentally no because you act like a three year old." he teased playfully and I match his playfulness and pretend to be hurt. "Anyway what I was saying before you rudely interrupted." he said emphasising the word 'rudely' in a dramatic way. "Soon my young friend you will have a normal sleep schedule and I will help you on that task." He said extra dramatic and I burst out laughing.

"You are such a geek." I say between giggles.

"Yes blondie but you know you love me." Edric playfully says to which I blush slightly to but it is barely noticeable.

"So what are we going to do today?" I say changing the subject.

"Well I think it is time for us to go to the Grall to get some clothes for you," he said smiling "but we need to eat first and I need to get ready for the day."

"What's for breakfast" I ask excited for more of Edric's delicious food, but to be honest I'm not really used to having three meals a day.

"Maybe some more spider eggs. I know you like them." Edric answers.

"Yes please" I says happily but then realise what else you said. "Wait but the Grall is a public place, the people who are looking for me might find me." I say unsure.

"Yes I know so I made you a concealment stone that will change your appearance," he said confident so I decide to trust him and I nod taking the bracelet. Edric honestly thinks that I am being too cautious but has decided to play along. "I am going to get ready and make food I'll be back in a few minutes." Edric still says cheerfully.

"Byyyyyeeee!!!!" I say doing my signature farewell as Edric leaves.

When Edric left the room I'm back to being alone with my thoughts. The thought that plagues me every day came at this instant came right on time the feeling of what Edric would do if he knew who I was. or even what I am. I was the Golden Guard, even that name sent shivers down my spine. I was a bad person and I hurt his literal sister. He would feel angry at that and throw me out or even hand me to the emperor he knows I'm powerless and can't fight back. Even if he forgives me (the smallest chance of that) he would hate me for not even being real... for being a Grimwalker.
