"Why are we here?" I ask.
After school today Gabbi literally dragged me to a party, like seriously I have bruises on my arm. We are now in front of the house, hearing the loud bass of the music from the speakers.
"C'mon it'll be fun!" Gabbi exclaimed, getting out of the car. I decided to go with it and get out of the passenger seat, the closer I got to the house the stronger the smell of alcohol and weed got. I was now in the house surrounded by sweaty and drunk teenagers, Gabbi lost in the crowd. You may think I'm the partying type but I hate parties, they're loud and filled with arrogant people. I soon decided to stop standing in the middle of the dance floor like an idiot, and make my way to the backdoor. I look into the backyard, thank God its empty. I lay on the grass and stare up at the stars, trying to make shapes out of them like I did when I was little. I stop when I feel someone lay next to me, I slowly turn my head to see Austin laying on his back staring at the stars. I turn my attention to the stars before he realizes I'm staring at him, because that would be creepy.
"Day or night?" Austin randomly says, making me jump.
"What?"
"Just answer the question"
"Umm, night"
"Black or white?"
"...White...Why are you asking me so many questions?" I ask annoyed.
"No reason, last one...French fries or tator tots?"
"That's tough but I'm gonna have to go with French fries."
We laughted and fell into an awkward silence, where it was just us staring up at the stars.
"How come you're not in there?" He said motioning towards the house, "You seem like the party type."
I laughed,"That's what everyone thinks, but no I hate parties. I like to have fun with my friends but being surrounded by wasted strangers is not my forte.What about you? Why aren't you in the there partying?"
He shrugged,"I saw you walk out here and I thought you might want some company, I hope that's okay."
I nodded maybe a little too enthusiasticly,"So what are you?"
"Huh?"
"Are you a traveler, writer, artist? What makes up you?"
His eyebrows furrowed as he thought,"I don't really know what I am, everyone in the neighborhood say I'm a bad guy. Parents don't really like me because I can be kind of an ass sometimes. People at school see me as a player. A jerk. So I guess I'm a bad boy? Its whatever."
I think for a moment before answering,"You never acted like an ass to me."
He smiled but didn't answer. I looked back up at the stars and soon felt my eyelids get heavy with sleep. Then before I knew it I was sleeping a deep slumber.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up to yelling. Wait, no screaming. I sit up quickly, my eyes adjusting to the rising sunlight outside. I look to my left where Austin had lay, his warm body not there. I smell smoke. I looked up at the house, it was engulfed in flames. I stood up at lightning quick speed, my head searching for a way out of the yard. The fence was too tall for me to jump over and the gates were already on fire. I had to go through the house. I take a deep breath of the semi-fresh air and run into the burning building, everything is on fire. Everything. I soon regret my decision and turn to run back to the yard, but flames have blocked the door. I'm trapped. I try to scream but instead I got a mouthful of smoke, I fall to the ground coughing uncontrollably. I see a blurry figure moving towards me from out of the fire, its death. I'm going to die.
"Help" I manage to squeak.
I feel strong arms wrap around me like a warm blanket. I open my eyes but all I see is him.
Austin
