Walk in the Woods (d)

Woods, blue in the sky

Sun, shining down, illuminating

Hundreds of paths, all radiating from this point.

Looking back, there is forest thick, no way back, should ever want to try.

Choose a path and start walking, as the sky brightens and clears, deeper, warmer, blue

Keep walking as the forest goes wilder

Take a look back, but the forest is thick

The sky clouds over, gray puffs from a smoker

cover the ceiling slowly.

The day steadily darkens

Risk a look back, to the sides

Trapped, the only way is forward.

Break into a run, and run, and run,

So tired, but the only way is forward

A jackal bursts out and taps after

With a pounce, light as a mouse

But with fury like a bear for her cubs

Scrambling over feet have tripping forward

Running, now for life

The forest comes alive, the plants reach out

Leaves swipe and branches poke

Swerve and dodge, it's the only way out

Still forward towards that little beam of light

At the end of sight.

The jackal is, closing in on,

Don't scream now, don't scare

It will kill anyway, accept death

Keep running anyway

The light is coming closer, run, farther, faster

and

The forest ends, burst out the forest

Come out on a narrow cliff.

Look down, the vertigo will almost overtake

The jackal has paused

and the choice is

always death.
