-Your POV-

For those who don't know me as well as others, my name is (Y/N), and I've made it my life goal to make everybody around me smile because of something I did — whether it was to help them, cheer them up, or simply be around to solve every-day problems. Everyone deserves a little light shed on their life. So, I go about my day helping anyone I can find in my free time. As I was currently on my Island Trial, that helped me spread my horizons even faster.

First, I forced down an entire bowl of a soup Mallow made, and told her it was tasty... it wasn't a harmful lie, though. I also watched over an hour of Kiawe's dance routines once I completed his Fire-Type test. After all of that, I still made time to go fishing for red Gyarados with Lana before sundown.

To say I was constantly busy was an extreme understatement. While I had myself working like a lap dog for the police, I genuinely enjoyed bringing a grin to those who appreciated my company.

As of right now, I am on my second trial location, Akala Island. I had completed all of the trials with my partner, Rowlet, and now was taking a day off to explore. "Whaddya think, Rowlet? Should we go to the beach and relax?"

I leaned back on the metal railing overlooking the sandy shoreline, watching as tourists swim and ride Mantine, surfing on their backs and laughing as they tumble into the refreshing water below. Cradling Rowlet in my arms, I quickly inhale with a smile, basking in the happiness of everyone below.

There was a building also on top of the cliffside where I stood, and — naturally curious — I strolled closer. The structure had no sign but was likely an apartment duplex since it had a few doors lining the exterior walls. I step closer and enter the lobby, the room the farthest to the right.

When I entered the space, it was barely furnished and only had a front desk with a half-empty vending machine beside it. "Alola!" I call, walking straight up to the back of the tiny room with a smile.

"Hi there, sweetie," replies a middle-aged woman from behind the counter.

"Can you tell me about this place?" I ask, eyes still lingering on the blank walls.

The lady slowly nods. "There isn't much to say, I'm afraid you can only rent flats here, but not many people come by, and we're losing business."

     "I see," I reply.

"Here's something interesting, though." She says, causing my face to light up.

I tilt my head, intrigued. "Yeah?"

"There's a kid here who lives in the room next door, and he's not going anywhere for two years." She sighs. "The lad paid us enough for that much, two whole years, but to me, he seems a bit too young to be out on his own — though the look in his eyes is dark enough to be one of an adult's."

"Is that so..." I mumble, interested in the peculiar male. I wonder what the boy's backstory is and why he's been staying in the boarding room for so long. I hope that I will be able to help him and bring some joy into his life since it's obvious he needs it.

"Yep. The boy never quits grumbling like he hates the world itself."

"Oh, gosh," I frown, concerned. "Well, thanks, by the way."

I exit the building, hugging my grass-type owl tightly. Soft breezes ruffle my (h/c) that framed my face, and I quickly make a beeline for the room beside the one I just left. The male inside could surely use a dose of happiness in his life — and if I could provide it, then it would be just fantastic.

Pushing open the wooden door, I'm met with the plain interior of a boarding room. There was a boy in the center, sitting on the edge of his bed, staring right at me. His stunned expression melts into a deep scowl in the blink of an eye.

"Get out," he growls, eyebrows scrunched up and gaze narrowed.

"Oh," I take a hesitant step backward, taken aback at his immediate, harsh reaction. "Well, I was, um, hoping we could get better acquainted... um..."

His glare bore holes into me, emerald eyes unwavering as they squinted angrily at my trembling figure. "I said, get out." If looks could kill...

'Remember, (Y/N). Befriend the target.' I think, rallying my courage and standing up slightly taller. 'I've gotta give this guy some happiness because, at this rate, he'll live a miserable life.'

"Don't look at me like that!" He shouts, somehow even more deep in a rage with each passing second.

     "Like what...?" I ask, puzzled.

The male clenches his fist and grasps it tightly, muttering, "Like you pity me, even when we've never met before today."

     "I'm sor-"

     "Get out!"

Clearly, I was going to need to try to approach him differently, in a way that's appealing to him.

But as I lay down on the bed I rented at the same building Gladion stayed in, the intense feeling of defeat crashed over my shoulders and pushed me further into the mattress. I buried myself deeper under the flimsy covers, whimpering.

I wanted to sink into a calm slumber and dream about my happy place — a field of blooming yellow flowers swaying in the wind, bright, cheerful petals dancing around me as I twirled in circles. Unfortunately... something else plagued my mind, keeping me wide awake.

No one else has made me feel this way... this frantic, this ecstatic... this raw emotion causing me to want to see his face once more...

"That boy in the motel room next door," I whisper to myself, a sudden smile creeping onto my expression. "He's something else."
