❥Sobia❥
"Awww, my baby is hungry," I coo, gently nuzzling my nose against Muffin, our cat. His eyes, wide with affection, gaze up at me, filled with love and adoration.
"Let's get you fed, shall we?" I scoop him up, feeling the soft rumble of his purring against my chest as I head toward the kitchen. His tiny paws knead my shoulder, and I can't help but smile at his impatience.
Reaching the kitchen, I set him down and open the cabinet where his food is kept. Muffin immediately circles around my feet, tail flicking eagerly.
"Patience, Muffin, patience," I chuckle, pouring his favorite food into the bowl. The sound of kibble hitting the dish makes him meow softly in anticipation. I place the bowl down, and he dives in without hesitation.
As I watch him eat, I find myself relaxing a bit. At least someone in this house is content.
I run my fingers through his soft fur, feeling the silky strands slip through my hands as he continues eating. His ears flick slightly at my touch, but he doesn’t stop, too focused on his meal.
Sighing, I lean back against the counter, crossing my arms as my thoughts drift back to the events of the past few days. So much has changed, yet Muffin remains my constant, my small source of peace.
"At least I’ve got you," I murmur softly, more to myself than to him. 'And him', my heart whispers quietly.
Suddenly, I hear footsteps approaching. I don’t need to turn around to know who it is. The air shifts subtly, and a familiar presence fills the room.
"Talking to the cat again, are we?" Shahzain’s voice is low, tinged with amusement, but I can sense the tension lurking beneath it.
"Yeah, he’s so cute. Who wouldn’t?" I respond, scratching Muffin’s ears, who purrs contentedly in my lap.
"Yeah, he is," Shahzain murmurs, kneeling beside me and running his fingers through Muffin's soft fur.
A silence lingers between us before he breaks it. "I wanted to talk to you about something." His voice shifts, and when I glance up, I catch the seriousness in his eyes.
I frown, curiosity and concern mixing in my chest. "What is it?"
"I talked with my friend about you, and luckily, he has a vacancy in his office. You can start working from tomorrow, if you want."
It took me a full minute to process his words. My lips moved on their own, barely managing to stutter, "H-How?"
He scratched the back of his neck, avoiding my gaze as he replied, "I saw you glancing at that Chartered Accountants firm yesterday while we were waiting for the signal to change."
