They say that Rome wasn't built in a day, but Zoey would bet that it fell in one. In one single fucking day, everything had gone to shit.
"So we've been betrayed." She'd summarised with blank eyes as John paced around the kitchen.
"Yeah, we fucking have! By your fucking mate!" She tried not to take offense at his hostile tone knowing it was probably just the stress of having both his brother and cousin arrested in the same night.
"You ain't the only one who's been fucked over John, my club is back under their fucking thumb for the second time THIS month!" She defended herself, crossing her arms in doing so.
"Yeah, and MY fucking family are locked up!" Halting in his steps to direct his fury all on her, making the girl's insides gurn with guilt as she let her eyes momentarily fall to the ground, before swallowing her feelings and facing him once more with an air of determination, a determination to not turn on one another. She moved off the counter she was lent on and closed in on him, her hands reaching for both sides of his face, hoping the physical touch between them would defuse the tension.
"We will get them out." It was a promise, her eyes began to search his for a spec of faith, "You know we will." John took a deep inhale through his nostrils, She was right, she always was, and almost as if that breath of oxygen had filled his body with the reasoning his doubt had temporarily pushed away. "But until that happens, it's our job to hold down the fort, gather the pieces, and start building again- Tommy is gonna need us to keep our heads."
"Yeah, you're right." He sniffed, as her hands melted away from his cheeks and she went to move only to be stopped by his hold on her waist. He'd let out a small apologetic smile before planting a quick kiss on her cheek, "I'm sorry." At that, she returned his gesture, letting her fingers capture the end of his chin, leading his lips to her own.
"It's okay," She smirked as their lips parted, "You should probably go down to the office and see what's going on, Pass on what I've told ya alright? If I hear anything else I'll call."
"You should come and tell them yourself." John encouraged.
"Family meeting ain't it? I ain't family." Shrugged with an air of nonchalance.
