The next day at the station

Jay POV

After a chat with Jessie yesterday, we realised that my car was being tracked because it's a police-issued car. They'll have run the cell towers to see what GPS was nearby and seen my car. They can't track my phone luckily but the car... the car needs to be tracked. Jessie and I sorted out an alibi, they will probably want to talk to her as well.

I walked into the station to be met with glares and death stares. My god, do they know? I also noted that Amber was nowhere to be seen.

I head over to the captain's office where I am met with him, the commissioner, and DS Peters.

"Take a seat," Captain Buttercup said, gesturing to the seat open opposite him. I take a seat and question all my life choices.

"Do you know why you're here?" The commissioner, Gordon Lavell, asked, turning to me and putting his coffee down.

"I was gonna ask. Amber just said you wanted to talk to me." I say leaning back in my chair.

"Breath, we just want to ask you a couple of questions." DS Peters said.

"We know your car was at the latest crime scene before the murder. Care to tell us why?" Captain B asked, looking at me. I knew this was coming. Well done Jessie. I owe her a lot.

"How much detail do you want?" I say and they gesture to me to keep talking, "Well if you must know, Jessica and I went for a walk and things got a bit frisky. Next thing you know, Clothes are on the dashboard and the windows were steamed up. After, we left and went home to finish what we started. Need more details or is that ok?"

"I think that will be enough. We will obviously need to talk to Jessica to confirm the alibi. Would you mind giving me her number?" Captain Buttercup said as he wrote down what I said.

"Yeah of course. Is there anything else?" I ask, getting up.

"Just one more thing," the commissioner said, also getting up, "Would you mind if we asked Jessica to consult on the case? She is one of the best in her field and we would like to utilize her expertise."

"You would need to ask her. Her parents were victims of the ax murderer and she just had a nasty accident. I'm sure she would be happy to help in any way though" I say, shaking everyone's hands and heading out to my desk.

I quickly sent a message to Jessie about the meeting.

Jessica POV

At home

Jay messaged to say the meeting went well and they believed the alibi. I just put the kettle on when there was a knock at the door. Must be Will.

I walked over to the door and opened it to find Amber instead of Will.

"Can we talk?" She said. I gestured her in and showed her to the living room.

"Just so you're aware, I am expecting Will to come shortly to change the dressing on my leg. Can I get you a hot drink?" I ask as I head over to the coffee station in my living room.

"Tea would be lovely," she said. I made a tea for Amber and a coffee for myself. I handed her the tea and noted she looked sad so I offered her a freshly baked cookie.

"What's wrong? I can tell something is bothering you." I say, putting my drink down.

"Jay told me about your mum and dad. I just wanted to say how sorry I am. I lost my old partner to the axe murderer." She said, looking down at her lap.

"I thought Jay was your partner," I say, wondering if they were a recent partnership.

"No, not police partner. Girlfriend partner. She was one of the first victims. I found out when her body rolled into the station. I was devastated. That was the day I put myself on the case." Amber admitted, playing with her mug.
