At the bar 9pm

"For over a year now, the axe murderer has claimed over 20 victims. Tonight marks the 26th victim taken from us too soon." The presenter says as the TV in the bar keeps talking.
"28" Jessica mumbles under her breath.
"As victim Kyle Hayes, 34, was found with high levels of insulin or heroine in his system as well as the standard torso lacerations and missing fingers. The police are urging the axe murderer to come forward and turn themselves in for the greater good. Alternatively, to the citizen who turns in the correct identity of the axe murderer will receive £10,000." The reporter continued. Everyone in the bar was listening intently at the mention of a monetary reward.
"Like my life is worth £10,000. They need to add at least another zero to that." Jessica thought to herself as she sipped her wine.
Across the bar sat the Halstead brothers. Both with beers talking absent-mindedly about the killer.
"Have you got anywhere with it yet?" Will asked his brother.
"No. There is never any evidence. No hairs, no fingerprints, not even the murder weapon." Jay says as he took a big gulp of his beer eyeing up the lone woman sat at the bar.
"What even is the cause of death? The axing? The heroine? Or the insulin?" Will asked, curious from a medical stand point. His brother seemed to be distracted with the woman at the bar.
"The M.E doesn't know. It could be any of it." Jay said not taking his eyes off the lady he saw. Will looked over and saw the girl that took his brothers attention. She had thick, blonde hair that was running straight down her back as long as her body. She wore a summery dress with a deep V-line in the front. Her makeup was minimal and she looked stunning. Not Will's type but definitely Jay's.
"Just go talk to her. Buy her a drink and be normal." Will said to his brother. Jay didn't say anything, just got up and walked over to the mysterious woman.
"I'll get another beer and whatever this nice lady would like for herself." Jay says to the bartender and gestures to the woman when mentioning drinks.
"Thank you. I'll have a tequila sunrise since he's buying" Jessica said. Jay sat next to her as he sipped his freshly opened beer.
"I'm Jay Halstead," Jay said, extending a hand to her.
"Jessica Williams" She says as she takes his hand and shakes it firmly.
"What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?" Jay said as Jessica received her drink from the bartender.
"I'm just passing through, getting my education and moving on." Jessica says as she sips her drink.
"Education?" Jay questioned.
"I'm doing a second degree. I already have a masters in forensic chemistry. I'm now getting a masters in criminology and currently working part time for the CSI team at North Lincolnshire police force" she said as she gazed at Jay. The man caught her attention. A hunk like this had to work in some sort of armed forces.
"Nice. How about we get to know each other better?" Jay says as he finishes his beer and sets the empty bottle down.
"How about my place?" Jessica says. Jay looks her up and down. She seemed nice.
"Sounds like a plan. Lead the way." Jay says. They both get up and head out towards Jessica's house.

The next morning 8am

Waking up the next morning was somewhat of a long task for the pair. Both ignoring their phones and just enjoying the company. Talking about nothing and everything. Jessica and Jay felt as if they had known each other for a while. Jay's phone kept going off again and again. Eventually both had had enough of the constant ringing so Jay eventually turned to see who was calling. Sg Peters was the name that appeared.
"Work" Jay mumbled and put his phone on silent and went back to cuddling Jessica.
"Where do you work again?" Jessica questioned between kisses and more ringing. The phone was still vibrating.
"You are about to find out," Jay said as he picked up the phone, "What sarge… wait another… your kidding… it was found last night and you didn't think to message or call… sarge… I'm out, it's also my day off… sarge… sarge no… fuck sake" Jay said stuttering before slamming his phone down and turning back to Jessica.
"That was intense," Jessica said, going back to kissing Jay.
"That was my boss. He wants me at the station today." Jay said getting up and heading to get dressed.
"Wait!? Station?" Jessica said, shocked.
"Police force. I'm a detective." Jay said, still naked trying to find all his clothes.
"Wow. A man in uniform. Any specific reason you're going in on your day off?" Jesscia says as she makes her way to sit in front of Jay.
"You've heard of the axe murderer. I'm trying to track them down." Jay said, sitting back on the bed.
"Them? Not even a gender yet?" Jessica said as she crawled on top of him.
"Its literally like an impossible case. There is no evidence other than drugs in the system and we are looking for an axe." Jay says. Jessica seems interested. For once a girl was actually interested in what he was saying.
"Improbable maybe but nothing is impossible. Plus it's an interesting case. Almost like this person is committing the perfect crime." Jessica says. They kissed briefly before Jay rolled to get ready for work.
"You have optimism. Love that." Jay said as he put his shirt on.
"You coming back later or is this it?" Jessica questioned.
"How about we meet up at lunch and grab some coffee. Then how about you come and see if you can help with this case." Jay said, giving Jessica one last kiss.
"How about I bring you lunch and then you can bring your sexy ass back here after work." Jessica said, grabbing Jay's shirt collar and dragging him back down to her but not kissing.
"Keep this up and you'll be my wife by next week." Jay said getting back up and heading for the door.
"Mrs Jessica Halstead. I like the sound of it." Jessica giggles. Jay laughed.
"So let's start at girlfriend and I might have a ring for you depending on lunch." Jay says, turning the door handle.
"Donuts them. I heard police like them." Jessica said.
"I'll see you in a couple hours then cutie." Jay said and kissed Jessica goodbye.
"I'll see you later hotshot." Jessica said and winked at him. With that, Jay was off to work.
Shit. I'm sleeping with a police officer, might come in handy to see where they're at in this investigation. He could be my way of getting out even though I love him and he's so fit.

At the police station 9am
Jay's point of view

I arrive at the police station and am immediately greeted by photos of our victim from last night.
Name: Isaac Marks
Age: 27
Cause of death: Axe murderer
Time of death: 7pm-7:30pm
Place of death: Hartsholme country park

Wow. Victim number 27 I think. I go and talk to my collegue about this and apparently this puts the fatality number up to 29. This makes for one of the biggest serial killers. Fuck sake.
"Halstead. You're late." Sergeant says as I sit down in front of my board.
"You asked me to come in on my day off. Accept it." I say as I look at the board and the file.
"What were you doing?" Sg Peters asks.
"My girlfriend. Want details?" I say. Peters just shook his head and walked away.
I look at the photos that the CSI team took. It's still just a sporadic murder. There's blood everywhere. All victims have no fingers. There's not even a motive.
"Looking at all these photos makes me want to change careers." Amber said as she walked into the bullpen.
"Imagine how the CSI team feels." I say to her as she sits on my desk and hands me a coffee.
"This makes victim number 29." Amber said. She was one of the best detectives here but even she couldn't solve this one.
"We have so many people working on this and the victim number just keeps rising. Its ludicrous." I say putting my coffee down and staring at the board.
"Do you think this person could surpass Harold Shipman?" Amber asked. Harold Shipman had an estimate of 250 victims between 1946 and 2004.
"If we don't find them soon then possibly. My girlfriend is coming later to help." I say to amber who's ears immediately turn their attention to me.
"What?! A new bird. I thought you were done dating." She asks as she gently hits my shoulder.
"I met her at a bar last night and we just clicked. It's as if I've known her my whole life." I say. Amber swooned and laughed.
"Am I gonna get a name?" Amber said.
"Jessica. Jessica Williams" I say and show her a photo we toom this morning.
"Honestly, she better not hurt you coz I can get away with murder." Amber says and walks away.
This killer is gonna be the death of me. At least then I'll know who it is. All I do is sit at this desk, day in and day out just trying to figure out who this killer is.
"Lunch for a detective Halstead." I hear Jessica say behind me. I loom at the clock. 1pm! I've been thinking too long.
"Hey." I say turning to her. She had bought two boxes with her. She probably looked at my puzzled face.
"Pizza for us and I bought a pack of 24 donuts for everyone." She says. I gently pull at her cardigan sleeve and sit her on my lap. I then see Amber. She saw what was happening and came straight over.
"You must be Jessica. I'm Amber, Jay's partner on the case." Amber said, extending her hand to Jessica.
"I am. It's nice to meet you." Jessica said, getting up and shaking Amber's hand.
"Firm hand shake. Nice." Amber said, looking curiously at Jessica.
"It's a man's world. You'll get nowhere with a weak handshake." Jessica said. Amber nodded.
"Too right. Can't let men rule everything." Amber said, looking directly at me.
"What?" I ask. Both girls just laugh.
"Oh, I bought Donuts for everyone but I don't know where to put them." Jessica said. Amber chuckled slightly.
"I'll put them in the break room so people can help themselves." Amber said, picking up the box.
"Thank you." Jessica said before Amber walked away.
"Seems like you've made a friend." I say to Jessica as she sits back down on me.
"Seems it. Where are you in the case?" She asks and I fill her in. I explained about the victims, the axe marks, the insulin and heroin. It was a messy case. Just as we were finishing up the details, Amber come storming in the room.
"Victim 30 rolling in." Amber said. Jessica and I run after her.
"Seriously another victim." Jessica says to Amber.
"Yep and this one is a Jane Doe. No fingerprints obviously but also no ID and now wallet." Amber said as we take a look at the body.
"This case is getting harder by the day." I say and I walk out the room.

Jessica Point of view

My latest victim just rolled in. Jane doe my arse. Her name is Beverly Smith. 54 years old. She wasn't that hard to kill. Jay seems frustrated with this case and Amber seems annoyed. If they knew the murderer was in the same room as them, I'm pretty sure they would flip. For now though, I have over 300 other victims lined up. Maybe I can get away with murder but for how long. I don't think I'll ever be caught. But do I really want to test my luck. Especially since I'm sleeping with the officer in charge.
