Vilem plastered a smile on his face and swung the door open. The servant behind it flinched under the Vampire's murderous intent. Even if the King was smiling, he could see that the man was beyond mad. In fact, the smile made it scarier.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but you had a meeting with the CEO of Madrix yesterday. When he realized you wouldn't show up, he said that you missed the chance of getting a great ally and just made a foe. Your secretary decided to follow him after he left and we just found out that he contacted the Beasts' King. We may need to prepare for war..." The man said without stuttering. He may feel like he would piss his pants and then pass out any second, but he had a job to do. He was personally picked by the Vampire's secretary because he was competent.

"Mmm, I see. What a fool. For now, continue spying on him to see what they will do, I will decide the next actions to take later on." Vilem said, not bothered by the news. He had expected this outcome to be honest. Madrix was a big company that sold weapons, guns and also lended bodyguards. Vilem had never liked the CEO, an old man named Gilbert, but the Vampire had been approached first, so he had accepted the meeting. The offer had seemed fishy, so he didn't have any thoughts on making a deal. Now, he was even more certain that Gilbert had wanted to trick him and then send his information to his enemy, the Beats' King, Zain. By making such an antsy move, the bald man had just revealed his true motives.

Vilem was glad that Mika had kept him busy last night, or he would have had to entertain the traitor. Vilem closed the door when he saw the servant leave. Walking back into the kitchen, the Vampire saw Mika still seated at the table but with a pensive face, his food left untouched since he had left.

The King cocked his head to the side, wondering what his kitten was thinking so deeply about that he hadn't sensed him entering the room. Vilem sat back on his chair, making a scraping sound on the floor that shook Mika out of his thoughts. The panther had been thinking about his father.

While Vilem was gone, he had heard everything the two men had said, as his hearing was overdeveloped because of his cat's ears on top of his head. The mention of his father had startled him, and a pang of panic had squeezed his chest, but he knew that Vilem was stronger than his genitor, so his anxiety had calmed down.

Still, he knew of the company Madrix, it had been him that had supervised a few of the transactions they had had with them. He had never shown his face though, he had only been in charge of writing the offer and signing the contract.

The shifter felt that he could help the Vampire, he knew the content of the deal between the Beasts' King and Gilbert. However, that would mean revealing his true identity. It wasn't exactly a pleasant thing to learn that the person you had just made a pact with binding you forever was your enemy's son after spending your first night together...

Well, Mika sure wouldn't like it.

He was scared that Vilem would hate him, which is why he had been debating what to do. Should he tell him? Should he not?

However, after racking his brain to find a solution, Mika had to admit that not telling him was only delaying things. He would have to tell him one day. If he chose to keep silent, then the cat would go out of the bag by itself in the future and Vilem could be hurt by it. They had just sworn to spend the rest of their life hips to hips, Mika had to trust him more.

When Vilem started eating again, Mika took his courage into his hands and coughed, trying to attract the Vampire's attention. It was now or never.

"I have something to tell you. I want you to promise me not to get mad and to let me finish what I have to say." Mika started, waiting for Vilem's reaction before continuing. The Vampire put down his fork and knife, intertwining his fingers and putting his hands on the table. Vilem felt a little insecure about what his partner was going to say, as he felt it was grave, so he redressed body and put on a straight back.

"I don't know if you had realized, but a shifter doesn't normally have his shift's traits on his human body. I'm only like that because I'm... I'm the Beasts' King's only son." Mika admitted, letting out a huge sigh after ending his sentence. The burden on his shoulders felt lighter, but he still had more to say. Vilem's eyes widened, then his brows furrowed. However, instead of throwing him out, shouting or storming away, the Vampire only looked at him, letting him finish like he had asked. Mika's whole body relaxed and he felt a warm feeling caress his heart.

"My father always hated me. My mom had died, leaving only me behind. He had great expectations for me at first, as I had my animal's traits on my body. It normally meant that your beastly side was more developed than your human one. It was also true for me, but I wasn't dominant and aggressive like he had hoped. I was a submissive, a really mentally weak one." Mika's voice started to shake at this point, not sure if he wanted to explain the torture he had lived. He shook his head to focus and gulped, ready to tell his story. It may be his only chance to do so. Even Charlie didn't know what he had experienced.

"I was... I was tortured. It's the best word I can find to describe how I lived. My father would beat me up until I was on the verge of death, telling me that it would make me stronger. He would starve me, insult me, lock me in a dark, cold prison and... and do even worse things. I lived all my life like a slave, by my own father's hands. I never hated Vampires like him, on the contrary, I wanted Beast people to live in harmony with them. On the day of my coronation, my father learnt that I wanted to donate my blood to the 'foe', it made him go crazy. I escaped, was disowned, and started to live with Charlie. You know the rest of the story." The shifter held his shaking hands tightly together on his laps, back hunched as he was too afraid to look at the Vampire. He didn't want to see the disgust, the anger, or even worse, the disappointment.

"I-I swear I have nothing to do with my father anymore! I never intended to spy for him or anything! I just want to live my life..." Big fat drops of water started to fall on his laps and hands, while his vision blurred. Small hiccups left Mika's shaking body as he tried to contain his pain and sadness.

He hadn't asked to be born this way, he hadn't asked to be the Beast's King's only son, he hadn't asked for war between shifters and vampires.

All he had ever asked for all his life had been peace.

A quiet peaceful life.

Hey dear readers, poor Mika! Did you think he made the right decision?
