Mika looked with sparkling eyes at a pair of cute little shoes for boys with bats on them. They had ordered plenty of clothes for the babies, along with the necessities, toys and plushies. Still, as the due date creeped closer, the couple feared that they weren't prepared enough.

The two lovers had read more books in the last two months than ever before, and all about the same subject, babies. They had also binge watched many informative videos and documentaries. They were both ultra cautious.

Mika had never known his mother, and his father was the worst exemple, while Vilem's own mother forced trauma on him and he cut off his father's head. They didn't have exactly the best parental figures to guide them. Charlie could give them advice about nursing the baby and everything about prenatal care, but he also didn't have a child of his own, so he was limited. They didn't have anyone else to ask.

They were nervous, of course. Mika had plenty of breakdowns because he was afraid of not being a good dad, but each time, Vilem would reassure him. Vilem also had his own insecurities, but then it was the shifter's turn to shut down his doubts. They may make mistakes, as plenty of new parents did, but what really mattered was their heart. They were more than overjoyed of having kids, and they would make sure to tell the children each day that they loved them.

The partners had settled on their respective names, as the children couldn't call them dad and dad, and Mika wasn't comfortable being called mom while he was a man. Mika would be papa and Vilem would be dad, this was decided by playing rock paper scissors because the couple couldn't stop arguing about who got to be called papa. They both liked it and felt like it would be cuter to be called that. Still, Mika won, so after sukling for an hour, Vilem quickly forgot his sadness and became happy again when thinking of having little kids call him dad.

Talking of father, Mika's own genitor was having much trouble sleeping as Vilem had continued to restrict his food supplies for two months and a half now. The Beasts' King, Zain, was also on the dark list for weapons' traders, because Vilem had warned every merchant that if they wanted to continue trading, they couldn't make a contract with Zain for the time being. More and more shifters had discovered what was brewing in the dark, and plenty had joined the Vampires' ranks. They were tired of the war, of being exploited. They wanted a peaceful world.

Mika had started to draft a situation convenient for both sides, and he was ready to expose it in a speech he would give after overtaking his tyrant of a father. Both Vilem and him didn't want to just dethrone his genitor, claim the crown and then rule over the shifters with a forceful hand. Mika wanted to be a good King that thought of his people first. However, his people now included the Vampires too. He couldn't make decisions that would only benefit the shifters.

Mika had thought that the beasts didn't like vampires and scorned him for wanting to donate his blood, as he had seen on the forums. However, as more and more shifters joined their side, he discovered that the forum was controlled mainly by the same persons and that they were all his father's allies. So, in fact, he wasn't hated by his community and peace was still possible.

It had made him feel so relieved.

Vilem nearly had a heart attack because of how cute Mika looked when he smiled so cheerfully and without a worry in the world. He had secretly taken some pictures and framed them. The panther was very embarrassed when he saw the pictures on the entry's wall. There were also lined pictures of the couple's happy moments, of Mika's pregnancy and the little outings they did while they still had the chance when Mika's belly wasn't showing that much. The once lifeless penthouse was now full of traces of their presence and the whole decoration had been remade so the mood was more pleasing for the children.

Returning to the current situation, Mika and Vilem were in a pinch. The couple couldn't decide what shoes to pick for their little princess. They had settled on ones with bats and panthers for the two boys, the first ones chosen by Mika and the others by Vilem, but they were hesitating for the girl. They didn't really know what girls liked, as they had never been close to one in their life, and Vilem's mother didn't count. They also didn't want to join the stereotype of pink things and princesses.

Mika rubbed his belly absentmindedly, trying to vainly communicate with their sweetheart. Suddenly, his caresses stopped and his whole body froze. Seeing Mika's weird reaction, Vilem hurriedly came closer, letting the little shoes he had in his hands drop to the floor.

"What's wrong? Are you in pain? Should I call Charlie?" The Vampire fired question after question, trying to see if his lover looked uncomfortable. Only the frown on Mika's face answered him, but the shifter didn't look panicked, so Vilem tried to calm down. He cautiously took the shoes with bats that were still in the panther's left hand and placed them on the table, before getting down on his knees before his partner so he could look up in his downcasted eyes, hidden by soft bangs.

Vilem froze, not expecting to see tears gathering in his kitten's eyes.

Panic immediately filled his whole body and his heart squeezed painfully, expecting the worst.

Had they...

"Vilem, Sugar, everything is fine." Mika came back to his senses as he felt the room's atmosphere change. His gaze refocused and he saw the Vampire at his feet clearly starting to hyperventilate. The shifter awkwardly tried to get the King up on his feet, but he didn't succeed with his big tummy on the way.

"I was just surprised, and those are tears of joy, you big dummy." The shifter laughed, wiping away the tears that had started to run down his face. Mika sniffed, trying to calm down his shaky breath so he didn't aggravate Vilem's condition.

"W-what...?" The King didn't understand what was happening. What had surprised his lover, and why was he crying of joy?

"Here, you feel it too." The panther took the taller man's hand and gently put it on his belly on the right side. Vilem looked at the place, unsure of the situation. Suddenly, he felt something push back lightly against his palm. His eyes widened and he looked up at Mika, seeking confirmation.

"Our babies have finally started to move. Those lazy buns worried us for nothing." Mika said, still trying to calm down his hiccups. The babies were supposed to have started moving a few days ago, but Mika had felt nothing. Charlie had quickly calmed the couple, however, as he swore that there was nothing wrong with the children's developpement.

Vilem's whole face lightened up like a christmas tree and he looked back at Mika's bulging stomach. The shifter lifted his shirt so they could see his stomach, marked with stretching marks, but the Vampire and him were too absorbed into this wonderful feeling to care about those. Mika had been plenty self conscious about his stomach now that there were scars, but it wasn't like it was his first ones, It was mainly his hormones speaking. He hadn't shown his naked body to the Vampire since it had appeared, unless it was for the ultrasound, but now that their kids were moving, it was the least of his worries.

Vilem lightly stroked the skin where he had felt the kick, and nearly jumped back from shock when a foot's print appeared on the belly. Mika let out a small grunt, not expecting the movement.

"Does it hurt?" Vilem asked, clearly concerned that the babies's supernatural strength was hurting their carrier.

"No, it's just weird, like a butterfly or something. It's strange to have something moving inside me..." The panther answered truthfully, the grunt having escaped his mouth more because of surprise then pain. The Vampire relaxed before putting his hand back on Mika's belly. The couple enjoyed toying with the children for some time, both of them relieved to feel kicks and smacks across their palms and seeing Mika's belly bulge under the babies' moves. Finally, it was the shifter's legs that gave out, too tired from staying up for so long.

Vilem immediately took action and carefully brought his lover to the couch, making him sit there until he came back with a warm compress to put on his swollen ankles.

Then, the lovers continued to contemplate Mika's belly, with Vilem telling stories, warning the children to not steal his lover, which made the panther smack him across the head, and just the two of them enjoying their newly found family.
