Ecruteak City greeted us with bells, old wood, and the smell of rain caught in stone.
After Olivine's steel shine, Ecruteak felt softer, but not weaker. The towers rose over the city like memories that had learned to stand upright. I kept looking toward the Bell Tower while Pikachu watched the streets from my shoulder.
His meaning came through quietly: "Old city remembers footsteps."
Lillie smiled when I repeated it. "Then we should walk carefully."
We had not gone far before a familiar voice called from near the dance hall.
"Ash! Lillie!"
Sakura ran toward us, but the Pokémon beside her reached us first. It was sleek, purple, and graceful, with a red gem shining on its forehead. The last time we had seen Sakura, she had been traveling with Eevee. Now Espeon stood beside her with the confidence of a partner who had found its shape.
"Sakura, your Eevee evolved," Lillie said warmly.
Sakura nodded, glowing with pride. "Yes. She became Espeon after we trained together and spent more time outside the dance hall. My sisters still say I have a lot to learn, but Espeon believes in me."
Espeon lifted her head. Her meaning reached Lillie and me like a bright thread of thought: "Sakura wants road. Sakura fears cage."
I repeated it gently, and Sakura looked away for a second.
"I do want to travel," she admitted. "I want to see more places and meet more people. But my sisters still think I am too young to leave on my own."
Reisa looked at Espeon with interest. "Sometimes a Pokémon knows when their Trainer is ready before the family does."
Ethan grinned. "A battle could help prove it."
Satsuki, Sumomo, Kuni, and the others stepped out after Sakura, each with an Eeveelution close beside her. The dance hall felt like it had become a living wheel of Eevee paths: water, fire, lightning, moonlight, sunlight, and the softer colors between them. Sakura stood at the edge of that circle, not outside it, but not fully inside it either.
I remembered how hard she had watched her sisters before. Back then, every answer she gave seemed to pass through the question of whether they would approve. Now Espeon stood beside her like a second heartbeat, and Sakura's hands no longer twisted together every time one of her sisters looked her way.
Lillie noticed the difference too. "You look stronger than before."
Sakura smiled, but it was a careful smile. "I feel stronger when I am with Espeon. But sometimes I feel like everyone still sees the youngest sister first and my partner second."
Tamao's expression softened, though she did not interrupt.
Kris looked between Sakura and her sisters. "That happens in research families too. People remember the child who first asked questions, not the person who learned how to answer them."
Sakura laughed softly at that. "Then maybe I need to show them an answer."
Sakura straightened. "Then Lillie, would you battle me? I want my sisters to see that I am serious."
Lillie looked surprised, then smiled. "Of course. Let us battle properly."
We moved to the courtyard behind the dance hall, where the Kimono sisters gathered to watch. Sakura sent out Espeon, and Lillie chose Umbreon. The two evolved Eevee forms faced each other beneath the red leaves, one bright with Psychic focus and one calm under Dark-type patience.
The courtyard battle drew more attention than Sakura expected. A few dancers paused near the open doors, and several townspeople looked in from the path after hearing Espeon's first cry. Sakura's shoulders tightened when she noticed them, but Espeon stepped slightly forward, blocking the line of sight with her own body.
