Bell Tower rose over Ecruteak City like an old promise waiting to be answered.
After the Dance Theater test, the Clear Bell felt different in my hand. It was small enough to carry, but every time my fingers shifted around it, I felt the memory of the Kimono Girls' battle, the rhythm of their dance floor, and Entei's warmth from Burned Tower. The Tidal Bell rested safely with Lillie for now, quiet and deep, waiting for the sea.
Zuki led the five Kimono Girls ahead of us, while Sakura, Satsuki, and their sisters followed as witnesses. None of them treated the walk to Bell Tower like a normal trip through the city. Every step slowed naturally as we crossed the old paths, and even Ethan stopped fidgeting with the Exp. Share on his belt.
Larvitar stayed wrapped in Lillie's arms, peeking out at the tower with nervous eyes. He had seen bad fire, protective fire, and Entei's sacred memory in one day. Now he looked at the tall wooden building like it might either shelter the sky or collapse into it.
Larvitar's meaning reached me softly: "Tall place. Old wood. Fire came here?"
"Fire came here long ago," I answered quietly. "But this tower is the one that still stands."
Pikachu walked beside Lillie instead of riding my shoulder, keeping himself where Larvitar could see him. Pikachu's meaning came through calmly: "Old place safe now. Friends climb together."
East studied the entrance and the upper platforms through the open spaces in the wood. "This is going to be more than stairs. The path turns back on itself."
Kris nodded, already looking at the tower like a living piece of history. "Bell Tower was built to guide reverence, not convenience."
Reisa looked upward as faint bell tones moved through the air, even though nobody had rung anything yet. "It already has rhythm."
Zuki stopped at the entrance and turned toward us. "The climb is part of the answer. Ho-Oh does not descend for impatience."
I tightened my grip around the Clear Bell. "Then we climb properly."
Two elders waited inside the entrance hall, both wearing plain robes marked with a small bell pattern. They bowed first to the Kimono Girls, then to the Clear Bell, then finally to us. Neither elder asked for badges, titles, or proof that I was strong. Their eyes went to the way I held the bell and the way Lillie held Larvitar.
One elder spoke softly. "No running inside Bell Tower. No shouting unless someone is in danger. No battling unless protection requires it. The tower listens to footsteps as much as bells."
"I understand," I said, lowering my head.
The second elder looked at Larvitar. "A frightened Pokemon may climb slowly. Bell Tower does not reject slow steps."
Larvitar's eyes widened at the words. His meaning brushed against mine with shy disbelief: "Tall place waits?"
"Yes," Lillie answered for him, even though only we heard the meaning clearly. "This tower can wait."
That answer seemed to settle something in him. He did not relax completely, but his claws stopped digging into the blanket. The elders stepped aside, and the first ladder waited beyond them with sunlight falling across its rungs.
Before climbing, I looked back toward the city. Burned Tower was hidden behind rooftops from this angle, but I could still feel Entei's warmth like a memory in my palm. Bell Tower was not trying to erase that memory. It was standing beside it, proving Ecruteak had always been a city of both grief and hope.
Kris noticed me looking back. "Burned Tower and Bell Tower are not opposites," she said quietly. "They are two halves of the same history."
Reisa placed one hand against the wooden wall, listening to a vibration too soft for me to hear. "One remembers what was lost. One waits for what can return."
