Whitney opened the Gym the next morning with a smile that made it hard to tell whether she remembered making Ethan wait. The sign from yesterday was gone, and several Gym Trainers moved through the flower-shaped paths inside.

Goldenrod Gym looked soft at first glance. Pink walls curved around the field, flower platforms marked the route, and bright lights made it feel like a cute stage. I already knew better than to trust Goldenrod's appearances.

The Gym guide waved when we entered. "Yo, champ in the making. This Gym is home to Normal and Fairy-type Trainers. You have to be careful, because cute does not mean easy."

Ethan looked across the pink walls and flower platforms warily. "This is the first time a Gym has two type identities at once."

Reisa nodded while Croconaw stood beside her. "Fighting is good against Normal, but Fairy punishes Fighting. If you charge in with one answer, this Gym will catch you."

Lillie looked at Bayleef, then at the glittering decorations around the path. "Goldenrod keeps teaching the same thing. What looks simple has another layer."

Kris held Chumee close while the baby Pokémon copied her serious expression. "Normal-type strategy also tests fundamentals. If the Pokémon are familiar, the Trainer has fewer excuses for misunderstanding them."

I nodded and stepped onto the first path. "Then we play smart."

The first Trainer waiting for us was a Beauty named Victoria. She smiled brightly and tossed a Poké Ball neatly.

"Oh, you are a cute little Trainer," Victoria said. "I like you, but I will not hold back."

Lillie and Kris both stared at her harder than the sentence probably deserved, while Ethan tried very badly not to laugh. I decided the fastest way past the moment was to focus on the battle.

Victoria sent out three Sentret one after another. Their speed and teamwork were sharper than I expected. The first rushed ahead, the second circled, and the third waited for my focus to slip.

I used Heracross because his steady body and horn control could handle quick charges without treating them as weak. He stepped into the field with a quiet rumble, wings flexing once before he lowered his horn.

"Heracross, watch the second step," I called.

Heracross braced, let the first Sentret rush past, and caught the second with a controlled Horn Attack. The third tried to punish the opening, but Heracross pivoted and knocked it back with his shoulder instead of overcommitting.

Victoria's smile sharpened. "They are not done. Sentret, use the platforms."

The three Sentret spread across the flower-shaped edges and attacked from different heights. Heracross had to turn, block, and choose which strike mattered most.

"Do not chase all three," I called. "Hold the center."

Heracross planted himself in the middle and let the Sentret come to him. One struck his side, another clipped his leg, and the third dove from above, but Heracross refused to break stance.

His meaning reached me through the pressure: "Stand. Breathe. One more hit."

"Endure," I said, understanding the lesson as he taught it.

Heracross tightened his whole body and took the combined hit without falling. Then he answered with a controlled Fury Attack that tapped each Sentret back before they could rebuild their triangle.

Move Dex Updated — Ash and Lillie's Shared Johto Record

Endure — Normal. A move that lets a Pokémon brace through an attack that should overwhelm it, surviving with determination instead of avoiding the blow. It teaches timing, resolve, and controlled survival.
