It was Saturday afternoon when Mr Williams got home from work. Being the weekend, he had a shorter shift at the Department. He walked into the house saying, " Honey! " Mrs Williams appeared and kissed him then said, "Oh, I didn't notice you were back. " "Whose car is in our driveway? It's blocking me, " Mr Williams said.

"Oh it's mine sir. Sorry, I'll move it. I was just leaving anyway, " Cameron said. Mr Williams looked at him sternly and indicating that he didn't recognize him. "Oh, sorry. Where are my manners? I'm Cameron Larson, " Cameron said offering him handshake. Mr Williams looked at his hand with mistrust. Cameron started feeling unwanted and intimidated. Mrs Williams noticed Cameron's uncomfortable and held Mr Williams arm as though to hug him. He took the signal and shook Cameron's hand. Cameron then awkwardly walked out and went to his car.

Mr Williams looked at Mrs Williams and said, "I don't like that kid. " "You don't even know him yet. He's a really good kid. He's been there for Marybeth this whole week and you know how tough it's been for her with the incident at the party and all, " Mrs Williams said. Mr Williams simply walked out.

Cameron was still waiting for Mr Williams to move his car so he could drive out. Cameron was thinking to himself when he turned and found Mr Williams standing right infront of him. He gasped a little out of startle.

"Did I scare you? " Mr Williams asked with a straight face as if his bass voice wasn't intimidating enough. Cameron felt intimated by Mr Williams eyes. Mr Williams was slightly taller than Cameron. Of course they were both well built but Mr Williams would beat Cameron up any time. After all, he had an advantage of being the Chief of police.

"No, I just didn't think you were here already, " Cameron said. Mr Williams nodded, his face still straight, and said, " So, Marybeth doesn't say much about you. I've heard of you though. Judging from your good looks, you're the captain of the school soccer team. Now, in every high school drama, your kind is with cheerleaders. You're not this nice to a nerd. What do you want? What's your real deal with this friendship? "

Cameron was frozen for a while, wondering what to say. Then he said, " Marybeth is nerdy but she's really sweet and I admire her brains. I hesitated to be her friend all this time coz I thought it would be social suicide seeing as people don't find her cool enough but I grew up and I decided not to care what they think. The party was a way to get to know her. Even she can testify that we were together most of the time but then, that incident happened and she ran off. I lost her a while before that. She told me she needed to use the bathroom. When I saw that video and after some time didn't see her again, I figured she ran off. And by the time I checked outside, I guess you had already taken her. What happened to Marybeth was wrong and I'm not saying this out of pity. She really didn't deserve that. No one does. When I saw how people treated her in school, I decided to step up. She needed a friend and I'm here for her, " Cameron said.

Mr Williams gave a very small smirk and scoffed then went back to a straight face as he said in a low voice, "That was too perfect of an answer for a simple question. Let's hope you're as good in school as you are at acting. " Then Mr Williams walked to his car.

Monday started out hectic for Mrs Williams. She was late for work and Marybeth was going to be late for school and there was still a lot to do and Marybeth wasn't making it easy.

"Mom don't forget to get a chocolate cake and did you invite Joseph? Did you...," Marybeth said. Mrs Williams sighed and interrupted, " No I haven't even invited Debby yet. I'll... " "No don't invite her, she..., "Marybeth said but was interrupted by a car's horn. They looked and saw Cameron in his car. He waved and stepped out to approach them.

Mrs Williams hugged him and said, " How come you're here. What about school? " "Oh, I thought I should pick Marybeth up you know, " Cameron said. Mrs Williams' brows raised. She was so relieved and said, " You're a life saver you know. I'm supposed to be at work in like fifteen minutes but I would've been late if I had to take Marybeth to school first. " "Oh, if that's the case, I can always pick her up no biggie. We're going to the same place and you need to save some time. If that's okay with you that is, " Cameron suggested. "Really? Wouldn't that be another pressure for you? " Mrs Williams asked. "No, I want to do this. Don't worry about it, " Cameron said. "Wow, you're a life saver. Thank you so much. Marybeth, we'll talk about your birthday later. I have to go. Bye kids, " Mrs Williams said.
