It was now time for the defendant to state their case. Mr Miller got up clapping. "Very impressive presentation. The evidence, the pictures, the beautiful statement by our victim herself. Very impressive but I am not convinced. I will start with the fact that this investigation was kept a secret. Not even the suspect knew he was under investigation. He just gets surprised one evening with the Detective at his doorstep. Anyway that's the least of my worries. From all that has been mentioned, it has been proven that indeed Marybeth was defiled but it doesn't answer the question of who did. I also took my clients statement, and you know what, I won't quote anything, I'll just play it for you.
He put on the recording of Cameron's statement:
"Tell me what you were upto that night. Just start from the beginning, " Mr Miller said. "Well, I had been devastated for failing my SATs and I was tired of being lost in thought and drowning my sorrows into alcohol so, I finally decided to make things right with Marybeth and decided to see her. I arrived at her house and decided to call her before telling her I was already there. I was scared that her parents would be mad that I came over without their knowledge. Then she told me she was home alone and I figured I'd just take the opportunity. I had no bad intentions whatsoever, I just wanted to hang out with the one person who made me happy, " Cameron said."What did you do when you were finally there and how long did you stay? " Mr Miller asked. "Well, we cuddled while watching a movie. My mouth got bored and I just wanted to chew on something so I asked her if they had snacks and she said yes. She went to the kitchen and brought some drinks then went back to the kitchen and came back with some snacks. We were enjoying the night when she started feeling dizzy and seeing things. I figured it was a sleep attack or something and asked if she had taken her pills. She admitted that she forgot. I figured she kept some in her bathroom cabinet so I went and got some. When I told her to take them, she dreaded and complained about how bitter they were so I put the bitter ones in her juice and gave it to her. I had to force her to drink it. She finally did and was feeling better and she peaceful fell asleep. I didn't want to leave her alone but then around like 8.00pm, I received a call from my dad to come home so I left. That's where my time in that house ended, " Cameron said.
"Objection your Honour, " Mr Davis said. "Approved, " the Judge said. "The evidence says otherwise. According to the evidence collected that story is out of line. His DNA was found on her body, on the sheets, in the mixture of fluids when the penetration happened. That couldn't be a coincidence, " Mr Davis said. "I agree with you but how do you even know if the DNA found in all this belongs to Cameron. DNA doesn't have someone's name written on it, " Mr Miller said. "Of course we know that and a sample directly from Cameron was gotten and tested and then compared with the samples from the crime scene and they were a match, " Mr Miller said. "I don't know if you believe in trial and error but I'm starting think something is wrong here. Either your evidence has been manipulated in your favour or there truly was a mixup and none of you bothered to confirm it. We too took our DNA tests and found that there was no match. Not once, not twice but three times because why would we risk coming here with false evidence? " Mr Miller said.
"I bet those documents are fake, " Mr Davis argued. "I dare you to prove it. Everything on this document is authentic. Tests were done in the most legitimate and best hospital for accurate results unlike the clinic where you got your evidence, " Mr Miller said. "The clinic is well equipped otherwise why would...? " Mr Davis said but was interrupted by the Judge hitting her hammer and saying, "Order, order. "
"Your Honour, I still have another piece of evidence that just proves how much of a lie this is. In the first recording of our victim here, she claimed she didn't do anything bad to Cameron for her to deserve this. Now, I'm not saying there's any reason to defend such an act. A crime is a crime. So, I present to you the truth. My client did admit to committing a crime but not of which he is being accused of. Let me not keep you waiting any longer. I would like to call upon Mrs Williams, the victim's mother. Please, come to the witness box, " Mr Miller said.
