Cleo's POV:

I saw Ava freeze up in the doorway, which was odd. Curious, I started to look around her but froze when I heard a voice.

"Having fun without me, I see." An unknown voice said. I instinctively shrunk back from the voice; it was cold, harsh, sinister.

"B-b-but Father-" Ava stuttered. Father? I wondered. So that's who her father is. Ava's father looked around her and saw me behind her.

"Now, who's this?" He said with cold interest. "Looks like you made a friend. Not like you deserve one." He sneered, turning to me. "Now if you could excuse me, I would like to 'speak' to Ava about something." And with that, he slammed the door in my face.

Ava's POV:

I stood in shock as my father slammed the door in Cleo's face. Then he turned to me. He looked furious. Sparks were leaping off of his cheeks.

"So." It was only one word, but already I was terrified. I started shaking uncontrollably. "It looks like you need to be taught a lesson."

"F-father, I-i-" I stuttered out.

"Silence." He snarled. He then slowly walked towards me with fire in his eyes.

Cleo's POV:

I stood in stunned silence, thinking about what just happened. Will Ava be okay? I wondered. I dismissed the thought and focused on the problem at hand. Where was I going to stay?

All this time I had lived at Ava's house, but now I couldn't get back in. I could go back into the forest, but without a safe shelter, that was basically asking for death. I decided I would walk around the town for now and see if I could come back later. I turned away from the house, taking one last look at it, before turning fully and walking away.

It was night now, and I was heading back to Ava's house. Thank goodness she took me on that tour, or I may not have been able to find my way back. As I thought about her, I felt heat rush to my cheeks. What is this feeling? I wondered. I dismissed it as worry and walked quicker.

At last I made it to Ava's house. I saw that all the lights were turned off. That's totally not ominous or anything. I thought.

I snuck onto the tree next to Ava's room, struggling to keep my balance. The moon shone in the sky, and there was a cold breeze. I shivered slightly before continuing the climb. When I finally made it onto the tree, I slowly shimmied on a branch closer to her window. After a stressful 5 minutes that felt like an eternity, I finally made it to the window. I steadied myself before looking inside.

And what I saw horrified me.

P.S: Sorry for the slow updates. With school and extracurriculars, I've found it hard to find time to write. I'll try my best, and hopefully the next chapter will be out soon!
