FEW DAYS LATER

“An unknown virus has taken over the world turning people into human-feeding creatures. The government has issued evacuation plans and a total lockdown in metropolitan cities. People are advised to not come out of their homes and be prepared for any trouble,” the reporter said.

“Unknown virus?” Ruby said, confused.

“Everyone in the school has turned into human-feeding creatures? Let’s wait for help, we can’t make our way out… It’s filled with monsters,” he replied.

Both of their stomachs started growling.

“We haven’t eaten anything for the past few days,” she said, holding her stomach.

“Let me find something in the kitchen,” he replied coming outside the room.

“Wait, don’t go alone. Let me join you.”

They came out of the classroom and slowly walked towards the kitchen on the ground floor, it was clear, they entered inside and locked the door.

“The shelves are locked,” Ruby informed.

“I expected that,” he replied, grabbing the fire extinguisher in the corner. “This might make some noise, make sure those monsters aren’t banging on our door.”

After hitting the lock a few times, it broke down giving them access to all the food inside.

“This should be enough for a few weeks,” Ruby said, relieved.

They returned to the terrace and sat face to face enjoying the newfound treasure.

“Wow, was this food always this tasty? I hated this every single day when they served this in the cafeteria,” Erik let out, munching down the food.

“When you are hungry, everything turns tasty,” she replied and giggled.

“R-Ruby, I don’t think someone will save us, this school is filled with monsters, the more time we stay here, the more dangerous it will be for us.”

“So, you suggest to leave this place?” she asked in a low voice. “We don’t know what lies out there.”

“I-it may be dangerous, but we are low on food and eventually will dry out, let’s get out from here and try to find civilization.”

“Sure, I don’t want to leave your side.”

A MONTH LATER

“Ruby can’t stay with us,” one of the survivors said.

“W-why?” Erik asked, folding his hands.

“She tried to steal the supplies. First of all, we are barely surviving and on top of this this girl is stealing from us, that’s unacceptable.”

Erik turned towards Ruby and looked directly into her eyes. “R-Ruby, why would you do that?”

“E-Erik, you have a fever, I- I just wanted to get some food for you,” she replied in a low voice.

“I apologize on behalf her, please don’t kick us out. We don’t have anywhere to go,” Erik requested and coughed a little.

“We don’t have enough for us and we can’t feed a thief and his accompany,” he said, pushing her. She fell down and hit her palm against a sharp stone.

Erik grabbed his collar and punched him in the stomach, when he fell on his knees, he kicked him on his face. “Keep your filthy hands off her, bastard,” he said, glaring at him.
