In the northward direction, the family is treading along, all wearing similar outfits, fit for the average hiker. The parents and brother often observe their surroundings as the other three keep looking forward. Jason, who is in the front of the pack, has his full attention on the path ahead, using his ears to listen for any abnormalities in the given area. Kaya and Kotori also listen with their heightened hearing. Although they live in the area, they are not familiar with the new territory they have ventured into. Kotori spoke with his father about adventuring to the north with Aponivi giving them advice on the unknown. Stating that, although they believe other tribes live there, they are not sure how they will act toward newcomers since none of any past adventurers went to the north.
"How far do you think we have walked?" Justin asked Jason as they ducked underneath a low branch, Jason pondered the question and answered, "Not really sure, we have been walking for a long time." Justin just sighed at the answer, he never would have expected to go this far north, honestly, he never would have expected to go on a hiking trip with two individuals from another species, he wondered what surprises awaited him in the future at this point.
"How long are we going to be moving for, do you think?" Jason's mother asks as she looks around. Kaya then says, "We shouldn't be hiking for too long, the sun looks like it's about to set." she says, The group looks toward the sun and the sky around it is turning orange. Jason then speaks up, "We should find a place to set up camp, somewhere flat, and have enough space for us all." He says as they continue to walk.
They then enter a small clearing, a small patch of grass surrounded by trees, an old tree stump and its fallen tree near the center, vegetation growing off both, a perfect spot to set up camp for the night. "Perfect!" Kotori says as the others move forward and begin to take off their gear. As everyone else began to set up their tents, Kaya gathered firewood, while Jason set up the place for the fire.
After a bit, it was night and dark, the area was lit thanks to the fire. All the tents were set up around the center of the campfire. Everyone brought their own food to enjoy, Jason advised eating it sparingly since it's all they have with them. Although he did bring his rifle and a pistol in case of any hostilities with anything, he wanted to use them sparingly or even not at all. setting them inside his tent, Jason enjoys the calm and peaceful night with Kaya by his side. It was a clear night with the Milky Way showing perfectly. Everyone is in awe at its beauty. Kaya and Jason cuddled together in a large sleeping bag outside their tent, observing the stars.
A question that has always been a wonder to everyone on the planet, "Do you think we are alone in the universe?" Kaya asks, Jason just chuckles. "That question has always been asked by the scientists of our species, they have spent so much time searching the stars for the answer, as we know more and more about the outside of our atmosphere, the closer we get to finding that answer," Jason says as he tightens his hug on Kaya, kissing her forehead. "Goodnight sweety," Jason says as he turns off the lamp, and the camp is submerged into darkness, with only the moonlight and the twinkle of the stars, illuminating the surrounding area.
Meanwhile
"We will set up camp here," Wesa says as the group sits down with exhaustion, some groan in pain as their paws ache from the constant walking. Some have had success in finding something, small rabbits and bags full of berries, but nothing big enough to sustain a growing pack.
"Wesa, we have been walking south for days now, everyone is hungry and wants to return, we have found hardly anything." One anthro bobcat says. "I know everyone is suffering, The Gods know that everyone wants to return, but we must stay optimistic, we must continue on to find anything to sustain our growing pack. On this trip, we are also searching for a new place to call home in hopes we find a good game to hunt, we may find competition, and I hope things won't turn hostile, Gods know I don't want any more deaths, either our own or others, but they know we must do what we must in order to survive the coming winter." Wesa states, in hopes of improving the morale of his people. "In the event of other tribes or anything, DO NOT engage, notify me before doing ANYTHING, I'd hate to have any more deaths on my conscious due to my troop's incompetence," Wesa says as he makes a makeshift bed while others start a fire.
Tonight...tonight might be the last night of suffering for the family...
