Sigh…
I drum my fingers on the desk and stare up at the ceiling. On the other side of the room, Charlie is doodling in a notepad and muttering under her breath. She’s probably writing her song or something “creative” like that. Vixen is sitting up the back glaring at the back of my head; I can feel his eyes, boring holes into my head…
Shudder.
So yeah, if you haven’t already worked it out, we all got detention… Yay. The teacher up the front of the room has his feet up on the desk watching something on his laptop, definitely not paying attention to us. I wish someone else was here so I could talk to them… like Brayden. Or Fang. I grin like an idiot then groan and smash my head down on the desk.
‘Owww…’ I moan into the desk. Vixen chuckles and I turn my head to glare at him. He gives me the finger. Such class. I gently bang my forehead on the table and glance up at the clock.
5… 4… 3… 2… 1…
The teacher closes his laptop and pulls his feet off the desk, glancing up at the clock on the wall. He gets up, calling over his shoulder as he leaves.
‘Alright, off you go.’ I decide against cheering, simply jumping up from my seat and pulling at my bag, which is stuck on the table leg. I grumble, moving back to untangle the strap. Vixen shoves me into the desk as he passes; I swear and, amazingly, manage to keep my balance. I glare at his retreating back as I stand.
Glancing over my shoulder I realise that Charlie is still here, muttering and scribbling in her seat. I bounce nervously on my toes, chewing on my bottom lip. Should I go over to her? I don’t know how she’ll react, I did say I didn’t want to talk to her ever again, but maybe she’d appreciate it? I don’t know! Eventually I turn away, glancing back at her over my shoulder. Just as I turn back to the door, she gathers her stuff up and starts to pack her bag. I let out a sigh of relief and quickly walk towards the front of the school.
My phone starts ringing, blaring out Areodrone’s Sceneboy. I laugh, slipping my phone out of my pocket. It’s the ring tone that I’d assigned to Brayden. I thought it was hilarious, because he so wasn’t and I don’t think he ever will be, a scene boy, I mean.
‘Sup!’ I say, bringing the phone to my ear.
‘Hey man, just finished basketball practice and I know you had detention and I was wondering whether anyone was picking you up or you were walking, cause I could give you a lift if you wanted it.’ I chuckle.
‘Yeah that’d be great, thanks.’ I can practically hear him grinning down the phone, probably glad that I’m not being incredibly depressing for once.
‘Cool, meet you out the front?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Okay. Oh, and one more thing. Jace, please change that ringtone, you’re killing me!’
‘Bye Brayden!’ I laugh, ending the call. I sit down on the curb out the front of the school to wait for Brayden, rolling my phone in my hands.
