~*Jace*~
‘How could I not have seen him?’ I moan once again. Charlie, for once, doesn’t say a single thing as she walks with me to our next period, lunch. I look over at her, suspicious. She is never not talking. ‘Is there something you’re not telling me?’ Her head shoots up
‘What?’ Her voice is practically dripping in guilt. I narrow my eyes, putting my hands on my hips.
‘Charlotte Ivory O’Connolly. You tell me now.’ I can feel those laser-beams coming on again. She sends a glare in my direction; she hates when I use her full name, and continues walking. I chase after her; I’m not giving up that easy!!
‘Please?’ Now she’s got me begging, puppy dog eyes all out. Damn that lady!!!
She sighs, giving in.
‘He really kept to himself, seemed to be really depressed. Today was the first time I’ve ever heard him talk, let alone smile and laugh.’ She slows down, turning towards me. ‘There’s this rumour that he’s here ‘cause he tried to kill himself and all the guys reckon that he’s got this scar on his back or something, ‘cause he never takes his shirt off in gym and he’s already changed and ready to go when the rest of us get there.’ She pauses and takes a breath before stopping walking completely, her eyes full of confusion. ‘And his depression seemed to prove all this, but now I don’t think that can be the case. One crazy little guy can’t bring no one out of that.’
I stare at her. Suddenly I realise what she said.
‘Hey! I’m not crazy, I just have boy problems and ADD!’ She just laughs.
‘That took you, like, 5 seconds to even register!’
You talked really fast! It took me that long to catch up!’ I protest. And walk in to wall.
‘Ouch!’ The wall chuckles. Hang on. What?! I look up. The wall is not a wall. It’s Jared.
‘Oh!’ I blink, ‘I thought you were a wall…’ He falls into step with us, we all have our lunch period at the same time, and we both silently listen, coughnotcough, to Charlie’s endless chattering. Well at least she’s back to normal. I hum softly to myself under my breath and bounce along between the twins.
‘Jace? Have you been listening to a single thing I just said? What did I just say?’
‘What! Since when is there a quiz on what you’ve been talking about? If I’d known there was a quiz I would have been taking notes! Why didn’t you tell me this, you kn-‘
My blabbering is cut off as Jared clamps a massive hand over my mouth and sits me down at a table. I look around curiously. When did we get to the cafeteria? Jared pulls his hand away from my mouth and places a packet of Oreos in front of me. I squeal.
‘Did you just squeal? Jared gives me a strange look as he sits down next to me. I snort.
‘Pfft, no! That would compromise my manliness,’ I say as I stuff an Oreo into my mouth. Mmmmmm…heaven.
‘What manliness,’ Charlie snickers. I gasp, nearly chocking on my Oreo. She did not just go there! I open my mouth, realise I have absolutely no comeback, and close it again. One day I will get that girl back, and then we’ll see who’s laughing. I sulk instead.
‘Just eat your Oreos, Jace,’ Jared sighs. I grin. My parents won’t buy, or let me buy, Oreos, so Mrs O’Connolly buys them for me. I just wash her car every now and then and she’s happy. I didn’t think that she would remember them, considering it’s only my first day back, I’m so happy she did!
