~*Jace*~
Brayden and I exchange phone numbers before he jumps into a light blue car that pulls up at the curb. He leans out the window and waves at Fang and I standing on the stairs.
‘See ya tomorrow!’ I grin and we wave back. Fang turns to me.
‘Well, I better get going to, got a lot of homework.’ He says with a grin and a wave. He slings his bag over his shoulder and walks down the road. I watch him until he reaches the corner and I can’t see him anymore and then I sit down outside the school on the steps to wait for Charlie. People stream out and around me, slowing to a trickle after about 5 minutes. Some guy practically trips over me as he sprints out and leaps onto a bus just as the bus bell rings out. I sigh and check the time on my phone. Charlie should’ve been out here ages ago; we were going to go to the park and hang out, just us, but I haven’t seen her since math. Fang and Brayden had already left, but I hadn’t seen Charlie, Peter or Jarrod. Maybe their music class had been held back or they got detention or something! Omigod, I’ve gotta save them!
I grab my bag and shove my phone into my back pocket as I quickly run around the school to the music rooms. Yes! There’s Jarrod. I knock on the door; he glances up and motions for me to come in. He pulls off his head phones as the door shuts behind me.
‘What’s up?’
‘Have you seen Charlie? She and I were meant to go to the park this afternoon but I waited outside for over 10 minutes and she still hasn’t come out. Is she in detention? Did she get eaten? OMIGOD, WHAT IF SHE’S DEAD! WHAT IF-‘ Jarrod clamps a hand over my mouth.
‘We got out early; she left with Peter 15 minutes ago.’
‘Oh!’ I say. Although it sounds more like ‘Uhh,’ ‘cause Jarrod’s hand is still over my mouth.
‘Anth or ethi ee uh.’ Jarrod takes his hand off of my mouth.
‘What?’
‘Thanks for letting me know.’ I repeat. He grins down at me, chuckling slightly.
‘No problem, sweetie.’ I wander down the hall to head back to the front of the school. I can’t believe it. She forgot about me! She actually freakin’ forgot about me! Or maybe it’s not so hard to believe. Ever since she smashed into Peter on the stairs, she’s barely talked to me just the two of us, Peter’s always hanging about. Sometimes I feel like she doesn’t even know I’m there. I adjust the strap of my bag on my shoulder and pull my phone out of my pocket. I hit Charlie’s speed dial, and wait for her to pick up.
‘Yello.’ She giggles and shushes someone in the background.
‘Charlie, it’s Jace, where are you?’
‘Jace! I’m at the park with Peter. There are so many acorns, Jace! Remember how we used to call them wishes, Jace?! Oh, and we have to write a song in music, I mean that is so unoriginal!’
‘Charlie, I’ve been waiting out the front of school for like, 20 minutes, for you! I thought you’d just gotten held back or something, but after the bus bell I thought you must have gotten a detention! But no, she’d call me, I thought, she’d call me to tell me she couldn’t make it. So then I thought you’d been eaten or something, Charlie, I thought you were dead!! I ran around the entire school to find your brother in a music room telling me you’d left 5 minutes early with Peter!?’ I panted, out of breath; I don’t know whether I even took a breath through that entire rant.
