Basically, the FFRS crew goes to Lake Champlain on vacation (with the appropriate clothes for the winter). It is the adoption anniversary of when Tien adopted Hippolyte, and the doggo feels left out because of all the attention Gage has. So she decided to come up with plan, eventually deciding to go out into the winter to kill the monster that is said to live in the lake.
Ghost would still be caught in the snare, but here is where it gets interesting:
Hippolyte was fully willing to kill the monster and prove that she is worthy of attention, even having her knife pulled out. But upon seeing the animal struggle, she remembers her own experience. The screaming winds, the feeling of being buried alive in the snow, and being powerless to do anything. The canine stops in her tracks, unable to go on with her goal.
After that, she would use the knife to cut the snare, but not before muttering this line:"They are wrong. You're not the monster of Lake Champlain, and I won't be a monster either."
When that happens, Hippolyte helps Ghost with his injury. And then, Gage stumbles into the duo while trying to lose the CG in the blizzard. The nerd stays with the two animals for a bit until the storm passes. After that, the story would basically end similarly to how it did in the original version.
