Sirena was still plagued by the dream, thinking all about that which she had seen. But reality had kept the dream only a dream. She certainly did not want to accuse the Attendant of being a mermaid in disguise.
And yet a better question came to mind:
'Where did that thick fog come from? And what caused that blue flame to engulf the whole plane and its inhabitants?'
'How did they not change, when Alana and I did? What would cause me to dream of such a terrible thing?'
The more she tried to rationalize it, the crazier it seemed.
Yet, somewhere deep in her heart she had wished that it were true. For the oddest reason, it just seemed right. And for just a moment, she did not feel so alone in this wild, confusing world.
She always thought the ocean was a lonely place. But being surrounded by hundreds of people and being unable to communicate with a single one of them in your own natural voice was far worse than being stranded in any sea.
"Thank you for this opportunity." Sirena says in her trilled voice. She looked down, humiliated by her forgetfulness once more. The Attendant walked over after hearing Sirena, softly saying to the embarrassed girl.
"Do not be ashamed Sirena. Ye have nothing to be humiliated for. I know yer parents diminish ye for speaking, but they only fear fer yer future." she welcomed Sirena into the Attendants quarters, just outside of the locked cockpit door. "This moment of inability to speak shall pass soon. Just have faith, my child!"
Sirena chatters in a trill, "I sure hope so." sighing.
"Ye have yer cellphone?" she asked, watching as Sirena pulled out her phone, smiling. "I was wondering about something the last time that we talked. Try speaking und see if the phone translates it for ye."
Sirena nodded; she hadn't thought about doing this. She opened the app, speaking a simple phrase.
"Thank you for this opportunity." and to Sirena's shock, it translated perfectly! She stared at the app, surprised. She then said joyfully "Thank you, miss!"
"You are quite welcome!" She takes the girl into the cabin, locking the door behind them. She then gently presses the intercom, communicating with the pilots. "It's Alana. I have Sirena here with me!"
Sirena looks up at the woman, shocked.
'Alana!? Your name is Alana!?' She remembered that name from her dream. And she knew that she did not read it; as Alana and the other Attendants did not wear name badges.
The door unlocks with an electronic click, allowing Alana to open the flight deck door. She ushers Sirena to walk inside the overwhelming cockpit. There were buttons, dials, gauges and levels all over the place. Four seats for four pilots. While three men acknowledged her presence.
"Fáilte (welcome) Sirena! I'm Captain Arja." says the kind elder man with a rich Irish ascent. He wore a black navy-like uniform with a black captain's hat. He looked at his second-in-command, transferring control of the plane over to him. "Come on over, my dear. The sun shall be soon rising once we pass through the veil of Ceo."
Sirena walked over, looking at the main controls. Arja deactivated the console, rising and offering the captain's seat to the young girl. She walked over, taking a seat in the deeply padded black chair. She looked over all the tech, so perplexed.
'How does he remember what all these things do!?' she wondered.
"Let me introduce ye to yer crew." he smiles, so proud "My second in command is co-captain Aeras. Und my navigations officer is Galen. Welcome aboard Miss Sirena Conner." Sirena smiles, nodding and waving to all of them. She was very shy, and unwilling to speak in her unique voice.
