"Trent," Melissa called out, her eyes returning to their true color. "We didn't gain our abilities to hurt others, you know that. It goes against the agreement between the Covenants. What if the Headmaster finds out?"
"I don't care," Trent retaliated. "An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth."
"Trent!" Sora interjected angrily. Luna jumped out of her arms, her brown eyes turning into red glowing embers. "This is why your parents died!"
"W-what?" Trent uttered in surprise. Everyone had told him that his parents died in a car accident in the mortal world.
"Sora, stop," Melissa tried to hush her.
"No, Melissa," Sora refused. "It's high time for Trent to know the truth. No more hiding."
"What truth?" Trent asked, still confused by what was happening. Sora calmed down as Melissa handed her a glass of water to drink.
"It would be better if we talk about this in the living room," Sora told them, leading the way out of the kitchen. Melissa and Trent immediately followed her. Trent sat on the couch, waiting for them to finish an enchantment that would prevent any sound from escaping the house. They both settled on the old brown couch in front of him, and Luna took her place on his lap.
"The covenant forbids the study and indulgence in dark magic," Sora began talking. "Your father, due to his anger over your mother's killer, managed to curse someone. Death is the punishment for violating the laws of the Covenants. They took your father, and..."
Sora started to cry.
"So, Trent, please remove whatever curse you placed on the brothers," Melissa pleaded. "Before it's too late. Before the Headmaster finds out."
Trent sighed.
"I don't know how," he admitted. His aunts gasped in sheer terror.
"How can you not know, Trent?" Melissa asked, her tone tinged with frustration.
"I got the idea from a book I stumbled upon in one of the gardens in Occulus," Trent explained.
"Y-you're not sure about what you did?" Aunt Sora asked, almost fainting at what she was hearing. "How can you bring them back to how they were before?"
"I-I don't know," Trent replied. "But that's not important to me anymore. I have no intentions of returning them to normal. I guess it might be better if the Headmaster just takes me."
"Are you hearing what you're saying, Trent?"
"Aunt Melissa, I possess these abilities," he asserted. "I don't just want to brew potions or listen to water spirits."
They were both taken aback by what he said.
"Do you really think so lowly of the witches of the Covenant of the Creeping Ravine?" Sora asked, clearly hurt by what he had said. "Our abilities are meant not to harm but to help others."
"T-that's not what I meant to convey," Trent explained.
Lucia sighed in frustration.
"It might be better for you to ponder everything you've said," she told Trent. The old lady felt there's no use talking to him at this moment. "We've heard enough for tonight. Let's go, Sora," she called her sister, taking her arm. They exchanged a final glance with Trent before heading upstairs to the second floor of the house. The cat jumped from his lap as he stood up. He watched as it transformed into a teenage looking girl with short black hair. She was a forest spirit who had taken residence in the woods and has been his spirit guide since he became a full-fledged witch.
