THYME POV

I was watching Kavin and Kaning talk when I saw something I never thought I would see.

He cupped her cheeks.
My little sister’s cheeks.

(K) What?
(T) Why did you cup her cheeks?
(K) Uh… because she’s cute?
(T) What are you saying?!
(K) Bruh, what’s wrong with you? It’s not like I kissed her.
(T) Yeah, but she’s my little sister!
(K) Thyme, I just said she’s cute. It’s not a big deal. Now help me clean these dishes.
(T) Fine.

I washed the dishes, but my thoughts were everywhere.

What if Kavin liked her?
What if Kaning fell for him… and he hurt her?

I wouldn’t survive that.
But no — Kavin wouldn’t do that to me. He knows how much I love my sister.

(K) Yo, why are you taking so long?
(T) I’m done, bruh. I’m going to sleep. Good night.
(K) Good night.

I went to my room and checked if Gorya was still awake.

(T) Are you awake?
(G) Yeah. Why?
(T) Did my sister say anything about Kavin?
(G) No. Why?
(T) Nothing.
(G) Yay, tell me what happened between them!
(T) It’s nothing, babe.
(G) Okay. Good night!

I turned off my phone and went to sleep.

KAVIN POV

I don’t know why I did that…
why I cupped Kaning’s cheeks without thinking.

Maybe it was instinct.
Maybe it was just concern.

Or maybe… something else.

I went to my room, took a shower, finished my night routine, and went to bed — my thoughts still restless.

KANING POV

I woke up at 7 a.m.

I took a shower, changed my clothes, and grabbed my purse. When I walked out of my room, Thyme and Kavin were already in the kitchen.

(T) Kaning, you’re awake!
(KK) Yeah. I’m heading to Gorya’s place.
(T) Are you going somewhere else after that?
(KK) Probably. Why?
(T) Just making sure you eat breakfast.
(KK) Don’t worry about me.

Kavin walked toward me and handed me a plate.

(K) Eat. Now.
(KK) But Kavin, Gorya is already waiting!
(T) Eat it. She’ll wait.
(KK) Fine… thank you, Kavin.

He smiled, and I sat down to eat the breakfast he made for me.

(T) You know, I wish you’d make breakfast for me too.
(K) Never happening. Ask your girlfriend.
(T) That’s so unfair!
(KK) Okay, okay. I’m leaving now.
(K & T) Bye!

I finally left the apartment and headed to Gorya’s place.

GORYA POV

I was eating breakfast when the doorbell rang.

(G) Who is it?

I opened the door.

(G) Kaning!
(KK) Hi, Gorya.

We hugged tightly.

(G) I missed you so much!
(KK) I missed you too!
(G) Did you eat?
(KK) Yeah. Kavin made breakfast for me.
(G) I’m seriously starting to think he likes you.
(KK) Stop imagining things!
(G) Okay, okay. Now tell me everything.
(KK) I will — but promise you won’t tell Thyme or Kavin.
(G) I promise.

Kaning took a deep breath before speaking.

(KK) Luke and I were on a date. He asked if we could have sex, but I refused because I wasn’t ready. He got upset… then distant. Later, I found out he was cheating on me with Mook — the school slut. When I confronted him, we argued. It got so bad that he slapped me and said horrible things… that I was useless, ugly, overweight, and lucky he ever dated me. Then he left. We broke up.

My hands clenched.

(G) That piece of shit. If I ever see him, I’ll beat him up.
(KK) Thanks… —she chuckled weakly— I stopped eating after that. Then he spread a rumor that I slept with his brother. Everyone believed him. They called me a slut. I denied it, but no one listened.
(G) What the hell is wrong with people? They’ll regret it.
(KK) I don’t want Thyme involved. I don’t want him in trouble.
(G) I get it. Let’s cheer you up today.
(KK) Where do you want to go?
(G) An amusement park. Just us.
(KK) Okay. Let’s go.
