KANING POV

(KK) I'll go back now. Good night, Kavin.
(K) Good night, Kaning.

I drank some water and went back to my bedroom, my heart heavy with worry.

What if Thyme finds out the truth?
What if he already knows?

Why is Luke here?
Did he know I left because of him?

I just hope he doesn't cause any trouble for me... or for Thyme.

My phone suddenly buzzed.
I picked it up and saw Thyme's name on the screen.

AUTHOR POV

The next morning, Kaning woke up early. She took a shower, put on a simple dress, and headed to the kitchen, where Kavin was already waiting.

(K) Kaning, I'll take you to college today.
(KK) I know. Thyme texted me last night.
(K) Good. Then let's eat.
(KK) You look nervous.
(K) I'm fine. Don't worry.

Kavin laughed lightly, but Kaning could sense something was off.
His nervousness didn't go unnoticed.

(KK) Does this have anything to do with Thyme's plans?
(K) No, of course not. -quickly- Let's eat. We can't be late today.
(KK) Okay.

They finished breakfast, got into Kavin's car, and headed to college.

AUTHOR POV - AT COLLEGE

Twenty minutes later, they arrived. Kaning stepped out of the car and waited for Kavin.

As Kavin got out and locked the car, heads turned. Students stared, shocked to see him there. He ignored them and gently took Kaning's hand.

(KK) Kavin, you don't have to hold my hand.
(K) Kaning, I don't want to lose you in the crowd. Just hold it, okay?
(KK) Okay.

Hand in hand, they walked toward the principal's office.

(P) You must be Kaning, right?
(KK) Yes, sir. -smiles-
(P) I've prepared your schedule and a list of clubs you might like.
(KK) Thank you, sir.
(P) Your classes will start next week.
(KK) Alright. Thank you.
(P) Kavin? Is that you?
(K) Yes, sir.
(P) I almost didn't recognize you.
(K) I didn't change that much, sir.
(P) I see. Is Kaning your girlfriend?
(K) No, sir. She's my friend - like a sister. I'm just taking care of her.
(P) Ah, I see. You should find a girlfriend your age.
(K) I'll keep that in mind, sir. We need to leave now.
(P) Of course. Goodbye, both of you.

They left the office.
Kavin held Kaning's hand again, and this time she didn't stop him.

AUTHOR POV - IN THE CAR

(K) Next week is going to be very busy for you.
(KK) I know.

Suddenly, Kavin's phone started buzzing.

(K) Hello?
(PC) Is this Kavin?
(K) Yes.
(PC) Please come to the police station. Thyme is here.
(K) Why? What happened?
(PC) He beat up a man named Luke.
(K) Oh God... I'll be there immediately.

Kavin hung up, his grip tightening on the steering wheel.

(KK) What happened?
(K) Thyme beat up Luke.
(KK) Oh God... I knew this would happen.
(K) Let's go see how bad it is.
(KK) Yeah.

AUTHOR POV - POLICE STATION

They arrived at the station and rushed inside.

(K) We're here for Thyme.
(PC) Come with me.

The officer led them to a holding cell.

Thyme was sitting inside, head lowered.
His hands were bloody.

(KK) Thyme!
(T) Kaning!
(KK) What did you do?! -worried and upset-
(T) I'll explain later.
(KK) You better have a good explanation.
(PC) Pay $5,000 and he'll be released.
(K) Here.

Kavin paid the fine, and Thyme was released.

(K) Thyme, sit in the back.
(T) What? Why?
(K) Because Kaning is sitting in front.
(T) ...Fine.

AUTHOR POV

Twenty minutes later, they arrived back at the apartment.

Without saying much, they went inside and sat down on the couch -
tension thick in the air.
