(KK) Explain now!

(T) I will! I wasn’t planning to beat him up, but he brought it on himself! I had been minding my own business, but then Luke came into the restaurant, acting like a jerk, even trying to flirt with Gorya! When I confronted him, he just scoffed and continued. Then I got really angry when he started saying dirty things about you — very dirty things. At first, I just punched him, but when he started calling your name and insulting Gorya too, I completely lost it. I beat him up. I wasn’t in my right mind at the time. I’m sorry!

I listened carefully. I know Thyme struggles to control his temper, but this… this was worse than usual.

(KK) Thyme, you could have held back! You don’t even know who his father is!

(T) I know who his father is, but that doesn’t give him the right to talk about you like that! It’s disgusting!

(KK) You could have ignored him! His words don’t matter. You need to think before taking actions, especially like that!

I stood up and went to my bedroom, my chest tight with anger. I knew if I stayed any longer, my own temper would clash with his.

AUTHOR POV

(T) Oh God… Kaning is mad at me now.

(K) It’s your fault, Thyme! You promised her you wouldn’t do anything, but you broke that promise!

(T) I know, but I couldn’t hold back after what he said about Kaning.

(K) What exactly did he say to trigger you so much?

(T) It’s better if you don’t know.

(K) Why? Come on, what did that bastard say?

(T) He called her dirty names and said horrible things about Kaning. I know it’s all lies.

(K) You have to tell me! What did he say?

(T) Fine… he said she’s a slut who sleeps with every guy she meets, that she does drugs and smokes, and even claimed she slept with his brother… and more things I can’t even say because it’s disgusting!

(K) What the fuck… how could he say that? That asshole deserved what he got!

(T) Exactly! Especially when I know my sister would never do any of that. She’s innocent! I don’t know why he would lie.

(K) Maybe because she broke up with him after discovering the truth. He got mad and made up all those lies.

(T) You’re right. Do you think Kaning will be mad at me for long?

(K) She probably will. She feels betrayed right now.

(T) I wish I could have held myself back… but I just can’t see anyone talking badly about my sister — my girlfriend!

(K) I know. Honestly… you did good.

Thyme sighed and lay back on the couch, staring at the ceiling. Kavin looked at him with pity, feeling bad for his friend.

Meanwhile, Kaning was on the phone with Gorya, explaining the fight between Luke and Thyme.

KANING POV — CALL WITH GORYA

(G) Kaning, you shouldn’t be mad at Thyme! What he did was right!

(KK) Gorya, how is that right? Luke is in the hospital because of him!

(G) You can’t blame him! He was saying horrible things about you, spreading lies. I wanted to punch him too!

(KK) Was it worse than I told you?

(G) Yes, way worse, Kaning!

(KK) Oh God… why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this? —crying—

(G) Shhhh… don’t cry, Kaning. Everything will be alright. Forgive Thyme — he’ll be sad if you don’t talk to him.

(KK) Alright… I will, Gorya.

“Knock, knock.”

(KK) Gorya, I’ll call you later!
(G) Okay, bye!

I hung up and opened the door.
Kavin was standing there.

(KK) Did something happen?
(K) No. Can I come in?
(KK) Yeah!

Kaning closed the door, and Kavin sat on the bed.

(K) I know you might be mad and disappointed with Thyme, but considering how your ex was talking about you, I can’t blame him for beating him up.

(KK) I understand him too. I just talked to Gorya, and she told me everything. I’ll talk to him… later.

(K) Have you cried?
(KK) Just a little. —I admitted softly—
(K) Because of Luke?
(KK) No… I’m worried Luke’s father might try to hurt Thyme or our family.
(K) Don’t worry. Thyme is stronger than Luke and his father.

Kavin gently brushed away my tears.
