A cool breeze brushed along her bare skin, and she whimpered. With wide eyes, she studied the ceiling above, gulping in precious lungfuls of air. Dust bunnies floated in the air, and she was surprised to see the stone walls slightly cracked, allowing the warm torchlight to disperse the darkness around her.
"So beautiful," she thought to herself. Even the cold stone slab felt comforting against her feverish skin. She was certainly running a temperature, and delirium had set in.
"I am going mad," Sha whispered, digging her nails into her palms to push her leaden body from the cold floor.
"How strange that the door opened on its own accord, or perhaps it decided to yield at the last moment." She was lucky, after all. She crept out of the tomb, and there were no sounds of approaching footsteps or growls from any lurking beasts. She glanced at the blood splatters on the floor where the dog had devoured the fat rat and shivered. A chunk of its tail crunched under her shoe, and she almost screamed.
"You are such a damsel in distress, Sha," she thought of herself as she walked cautiously toward the exit, avoiding any further exploration of the tunnel.
"No, let's end this madness for today; we've consumed all the courage we had stored in our big girl pants."
The bed felt divine. She didn't even shower or glance in the mirror; she simply collapsed into her bed and tried to sleep. One single thought gnawed at her brain, inside out:
"Who was the man in her dream? A demon or a faerie prince? Maybe just a figment of her imagination."
