The click-clack of sharp claws reverberated through the corridor, forming a sinister melody that danced upon the stone floor. With every echoing step, the sound drew nearer—a relentless crescendo of dread.
"Search the tunnel, Fang," commanded a woman, her voice cutting through the stillness. The release of large metallic chains onto the ground joined the chorus, their scrape against the stone's surface harmonizing with the frenzied rhythm of claws striking the ground. The unsettling symphony grew in intensity, each successive beat bringing them closer.
Sha instinctively curled into herself, pulling her knees toward her chest, an attempt to make herself inconspicuous. Pressing her curved, bony spine firmly against the ruggedly carved stone behind her, she felt the cold imprints of the carved embellishments etched into her flesh. A gargoyle's stony muzzle pressed harshly against her bones, a haunting reminder of the world she found herself trapped within.
A strangled gasp hung in the air, teetering on the edge of her lips as a ragged, raggedy dog emerged from the shadows. Its neon-red eyes gleamed with an otherworldly fervor, locking onto her. Breath lodged in her throat, and her imagination conjured visions of those drooling jaws, clamping down upon her delicate hand. Suddenly, the dog lunged, and a mangled scream of agony and terror, sliced through the air. The spray of blood decorated the stone floor like an unholy masterpiece, and the acrid taste of metal filled Sha's mouth; her stomach churned with dread. Her eyes wide with a mix of horror and anticipation.
From the mouth of the tunnel, a tall woman with fiery red hair emerged, her presence casting a sinister shadow in the light of the blazing torches. In her hand, a cruel metallic chain swung with a malevolent grace. The atmosphere hummed with an electric tension, the very air crackling with a foreboding energy. A sickening sound of flesh tearing reached her ears, mingling with the dog's wails of torment as it relinquished its grip on a fat rat, crimson staining its dirty fur.
"You are worthless!" the woman's enraged scream sliced through the turmoil, carrying with it a venomous condemnation. With a vicious pull, she dragged the dog's quivering carcass.
Sha exhaled a quivering breath, her body trembling in the aftermath of the scene. Just as the woman pivoted, disappearing around a corner, Sha's hand pressed flat against the wall, as she tried to stand up on her trembling feet.
A gust of air swept through the opening gap, causing her dirt-streaked dress to ripple in response. In the blink of an eye, the unyielding surface beneath her palm morphed turned unstable, and Sha's world tilted violently. The wall pivoted, and she tumbled with a resonant thud. Her head and ribs collided with the cold, rough, unyielding surface, and darkness enveloped her.
