Gemini

I shivered as I heard the terribly icy sound of our godmother's cackling directly above us. The floorboards seemed to crack under her feet, the rotting wood not quite able to successfully hold her weight without threatening to collapse upon us. She cackled again, this time closer to us. I spun on my heel, pressing my left index finger to my lips, silencing my sister. I couldn't bear to think that it might end the same way as it did for our sister. I had to save Ly. No matter what happened.

3rd person

The two girl's hearts thudded against their ribcages, as they made their way towards the cackling of Isabella Gaunt.

Finally the blonde witch came into view. Her bloodshot eyes darted between her goddaughters. It creeped out Lyra to say the very least.

Without warning, she started cackling again, louder than ever. "Lyric and Gemma Davi. I thought I'd see you two again."

Scowling, Gemini slowly reached for her wand. Lyra did the same before Isabella, obviously anticipating this, reacted quickly.

"Avada Kedavra!" Gemini, more trained than Lyra, stepped in front of her sister.

"Stupefy!"

Lyra watched, stunned as her godmother and sister duelled. Finally, snapping out of her daze, she joined in.

"Stupefy!" All at once Isabella, even though she easily could've taken both of them, pulled away and jumped out of the way.

She snickered. "Well, if you insist on using baby spells.." She strode forward, smirking. "Expelliarmus!" Both girls deflected this, but Isabella was quicker. "Stupefy!" This time, it hit Lyra full on, colliding with her chest and knocking her down.

Immediately Gemini attempted to hit Isabella with the same technique, but did not prevail.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" Gemini gasped as her feet left the floor, her clothes dragging her upward.

All at once, she was thrown like a rag doll across the room, hitting the wall hard and she moved no more. Lyra sprung to her feet, trying desperately to get to her wand only for it to fly a good distance away after being kicked by a smirking Isabella.

"Crucio!" Lyra's figure crumpled to the cold floor as she writhed in brutal pain. Then it stopped. She looked up to see Isabella approaching her. "Have you ever used an unforgivable?" Lyra glared hatefully at her godmother in response. "Of course you haven't! Silly me." She fake laughed. "Why don't you pick up your wand? This isn't a fair fight. Go on! Take a go."

Lyra glared furiously.

"Is there something you'd like to say?"

"Several." She hissed.

Isabella's face contorted in fury. "Crucio!" Lyra fell back down, crying out. "What makes you think you can talk to me like that?"

Isabella cackled. "It didn't have to end this way, you know? You could've joined me, been a proper family."

Lyra used what little strength she had gathered to look up again. "I h-have family. Gemini, m-my friends, they're my family." Her voice shook but was strong.

Isabella's eyes flashed. "You-" her voice cut off and her eyes widened. In the quickest motion Lyra had ever seen, her godmother swung around, wand in hand to face Gemini. But it was too late. Isabella dropped to her knees. She was dead. A victory shout had rose in Lyra's throat before it died out.

Gemini hadn't moved from her spot and her head was down.

"Gem.." Gemini looked up, eyes barely focusing on her face.

Blood leaked from the girl's lips and her shirt was soaked with red. She fell to her knees and Lyra broke free of her shocked daze. "Gemini!"

She flung herself forward, catching the blonde girl before she hit the floor. Gemini gasped for air, clutching at her chest that was rising and falling too fast with shallow breaths. "I-Isa-Isabella! Is- she?"

Lyra, in too much of a numb state to even acknowledge what was happening, she barely heard her own words. "Dead. She's dead."

Gemini smiled, even more blood trailing down her chin. "G-good, good, good..." She trailed off, eyes drifting back in her head.

"Gem.. Gem!" Her eyes focused again, resting on Lyra's face. She raised her blood stained hand and touched Lyra's face. She appeared to be struggling to say one last thing and Lyra leaned down to hear, expecting some sort of heartfelt goodbye or whatever.

Gemini snickered and smirked up at her. "See.. y-you in... hell." Her smirk became a genuine smile before her eyes closed again and Lyra couldn't feel her chest rising or hear her shallow breaths anymore.

Time lapse

Lyra felt numb as she left the room, walking down to the great hall, leaving the bodies of her sister and godmother behind her. A low buzzing was all she heard as many students crowded around her to speak about the events of that day. But that was the one thing she never wanted to think about again. How was it that one moment you had three great friends and in the next couple of hours, you then had zero.

She went only to Marlene, Lily and Mary as the great hall filled up even more with frenzied students. They must've noticed the broken hearted glint in her eyes and the sorrow that hung over her like a heavy drape because they ran to her and hugged the empty girl.

They smiled sadly but sincerely at their copper haired friend.

After about ten minutes of talking and Lyra looking over her shoulder to make sure the marauders hadn't spotted her, Marlene spoke up. "Why do you speak as though we'll never see you again?"

"I can't stay here."

Mary looked startled. "But this can't be the last time we'll ever see you?"

"I hope not. But if you do, it won't be for a very long time." Lily stayed silent. After exchanging hugs with the three, Lily's more reluctantly, Lyra turned.

She walked away. Away from everything she had ever known for years. All the friends she had. Alone. She had come with her sister and her close friend, only to leave with neither.

She heard a female voice behind her suddenly and she spun on her heel, almost expecting to see Gemini running after her and calling her a useless git for not waiting, but this was not the case.

Lily reached her and flung her arms around her neck, hugging her so tightly that she thought she might pop. "Until the next meeting, Lily Evans." Tears streamed down the red haired girl's face.

"Ly.. where will you go?"

"We- er, I'll find somewhere. Eventually. Don't burden yourself, worrying about me." She tried to swallow the lump in her throat. She attempted to lighten the mood. "Promise you'll give James a chance while I'm gone?" Lily laughed, crying harder.

She wiped her eyes, serious again. "Answer me honestly, Ly. Will I ever see you again?"

Lyra's face fell. And she said the last six words Lily had ever heard her say.

"You're better off to forget me."
