Just one hundred feet away, stood my parents, my court, and my sisters. I was surprised to see my mother and father still alive. But something wasn't right.

Brylee stood between them all. All of them were on their knees, my parents included and looked between me and my sister. No one stopped me on my approach and I stopped Cintra ten feet away from where Brylee was currently holding a knife to Amora's throat.

Confusion flooded my features.

"I knew there was something off about you today, Aleah." Brylee said. "But I would have never guessed that you were Heir to Shadowfire."

I didn't speak and I hardly moved.

Brylee continued. "If it weren't for Darian over here," she gestured to him with her chin, "I never would have known."

Just when I thought he couldn't, Darian found yet another way to betray me. He looked defeated with his head hanging low. I was surprised that he, too, wasn't dead yet. Maybe I would be granted the pleasure of killing him myself.

But what was Brylee doing? Why was she holding everyone hostage?

"You still haven't figured it out yet, have you?"

My mind started to whir with all potential possibilities. What was she talking about? What was there to figure out? Amora was the bad guy and I was here to claim justice.

"All this time," she started, "you have been so naive that you hadn't realized that the danger was right under your nose."

I eyed Bri standing behind her as she lowered her hood. It still hurts to see her there, standing against me. I thought we were friends. I thought that she would always stand by me, but I was wrong.

But why was she standing beside Brylee and not alongside Amora on the ground?

For the first time, realization struck me.

Brylee laughed.

"Figure it out now?"

No. This couldn't be possible. How has it been Brylee this entire time? How could it have been her who planned all of these attacks?

"You." I say, my shadows exploding from my body.

"I am the one that started this entire thing. I went to Amora for help and she happily took up my offer. You were never meant to live, Aleah. You were supposed to die long ago."

"So then why did you help me!"

"To avert attention from myself," she says as if it was obvious. "And that note that you found in Amoras room? I planted it after my very useful spy told me that you were planning to search her room."

"No." Was all I managed to say.

"This whole thing was about me taking the throne. And quite honestly, Amora." She said, averting her gaze to her. "You have been a fool as well. How could you not realize that this entire time, I have been manipulating you? You stupid fool."

"So this whole time, you just had Amora doing your dirty work as you kicked back and enjoyed the show."

"Exactly!"

A small part of me actually felt bad for Amora but she had still been the one to give that maid the poison, she still hired the assassin to kill Brock.

"And now, all of you will die." She said, digging the knife deeper into Amoras throat. I could see her crimson blood dripping from where I sat atop Cintra.

"Enough!" I yelled.

Instantly, the sky turned dark with only a little light penetrating through. My anger began to take hold and all I wanted to do was destroy everything in my way.
