After picking up some stuff for Boss, I head back to the trap house and sleep the first time in days. I often try and get some rest while I'm running multiple errands but it's hard when it's loud in here. I would go home but this is easy access when I got to do a few things in a row. When I wake up, it's night time. I get changed into my spare clothes and fix my shit in my bag before heading downstairs to talk to Dre. He would be giving me my payments and showing me the new strain he was curating in the weed room in the basement.
"Yo Boss," I make my presence known.
"This the one." He tosses me a bag that I put in my book bag. "Its a few Gs in there. It's forty, each, forty-five for the sticky mix and no big purchases." He instructs and I nod.
"Bet." I wait a second before starting to leave.
"Hold on, how's the part time?" He ask, referring to the part time job I had that limited my hours.
"It was fine but couldn't take enough shifts so they let me go a few days ago." I reply. I was really upset about it too. Not only are real government jobs good for cover, but it's good for extra coin and my record. I need some type of assurance to get an account to build credit or some shit. I want a real secure place rather than the one I'm at now, where I pay in cash, helping the super avoid taxes. Dre looks at me and shakes his head before taking out the cash I was meant to receive for my other jobs.
"You got some extra in there. Think of it as my donation." He jokes before turning back.
"Thanks Boss. I'm good to step away a few days?" I ask.
"Yeah go visit yo sister before she forget your face." He waves me off and we both laugh.
I leave and set my path to the train so I can get home to my apartment I got after I dropped out. Well, I didn't drop out but I did get my GED before graduation so I didn't finish school with everyone else. Trina, my best friend, did the same. She's the only person I have trusted with my entire being since we've known each other since we were kids. She's been by my side since we were about five, when we met in the same projects building. Both of our families didn't want us but we wanted each other and that's all that mattered.
At least, it was all that mattered until I hit highschool and my mom had another baby. Trina and I knew we had to get out of the projects because how close it was to gangs, violence, and drugs but had no means of doing so. We didn't have phones, we didn't have money, we didn't even have working parents but it didn't mean anything to get away if I knew I'd be leaving Niquey behind. So instead of running away with Trina, with nothing to hold onto, we stayed behind as long as we could, hiding any means of money we had from our mothers.
Niquey was two when CPS took her from us. I was at work at the local McDonald's, Trina was fighting her mother and my mother was drugged up, fighting one of her gangster ass boyfriends. It was then when a nosy neighbor heard the screaming child and called child protective services to take Niquey. My mother obviously didn't fight it because she doesn't give a shit about us. Mom is a druggie with all types of attachments to everyone but us so she never tried to get her back, thankfully.
In all of that, I was placed back with my mother since they didn't care about teens just as much as the next guy. Niquey got put in an adoption center but I could still visit her since she's attached to me and Trina. I knew it would happen but it still hurt when it did.
She never did get adopted but she's been in about three foster homes since she was taken six years ago. She's got speech issues so those weird ass couples didn't take her. They don't want a "defective" one. Those motherfuckers don't know good when they see it, they only see genetics, background and limits our potential to the ground.
