January 10th (Freshman Year)

I woke up with a start.

"Ugh," I groaned, smacking the smooth surface of my bedside table. An excruciating feeling shot up my arm. "Stupid little table." I mumbled.

I then reached out again, more aware of the keen edge of the miniature table. After poking around for a few seconds, I finally found what I was seeking for: my dearly beloved cell phone. When my eyes finally adjusted to the bright light of my cell, it finally focused on the time; six freaking AM...in the bloody morning.

Oh great. School doesn't even start for another two hours. What on earth am I gonna do now? I thought to myself.

"Might as well get ready, as early as it is." I began to slide of my bed and that was when the dream (more like nightmare) started coming back to my memory.

It was by far the most agonizing dream I've ever had...but of course, any dream that involve..Stacy would want to make anyone hurl. I literally hate Stacy Buitron and the reason why? It's because she's the most sinister and ominous person I've ever had the fortune to meet, and I did meet some pretty awful people.

To think we were actually best friends...I shuddered at the memory. It started out as the best day of my life but ended as the worst....

***

Stacy and I met in fourth grade. She was a really nice and honest girl back then, which was why I befriended her.

We shared many interests, especially when it comes to Student Council. Our mutual desires consisted of wanting to become president one day in high school but the thought was just so far away that we didn't really care much about it.

Anyways, we were best friends until the end of eighth grade, until she humiliated me in front of everyone. My friends, family...everyone. It was especially embarrassing because it was on my fourteenth birthday.

We were having so much fun, because it was a pool party. We danced and sang...everyone was having a pretty good time. When it was finally time for me to blow out the candles, everyone (say around forty people or so) started gathering around the table to sing Happy Birthday. After thanking my mom and dad, I stared at the most magnificent cake in the world; grateful that it's my cake.

Elation shot through my body like nerves in that moment. Everyone was smiling genuinely at me and I had to admit, everything felt so...perfect.

Sadly, the feeling disappeared as fast as it came. All because of her.

Stacy then "accidentally" elbowed me after I blew out the candles, and I came in contact face-first into the dead center of the cake. The singing stopped abruptly. It was silent for a while then everyone bursted into laughter, excluding my family. It was especially mortifying because my face was wet from the pool water too.

"Oops," Stacy whispered, while trying to hold back her laughter. "I thought I saw a bee and I was just trying to swat it away. I honestly didn't mean to...." But of course she didn't get to finish that sentence because I kicked her out, while trying to rub the cake out of my flustered face with a tissue, with what little dignity I have left.

It also didn't help that she started being really mean to me afterwards but oh well, I guess some people can't help being the devil's spawn. (cough Stacy *cough)

And so, of course the dream was horrifying. I can't believe that I actually dreamt of Stacy beating me in the school election....now that would be a real nightmare. If the she-devil wins, she'll brag about it for the rest of my life while continuing making my life a living hell.

"Wow, what high self-esteem I have. Good job Emily, your parents must be so proud." I mumbled to myself.
"But if I win...."

My life would be absolutely perfect. Being president of StuCo is going to give me a huge advantage of going to a good college and of course, rubbing it in Stacy's face.

"Emily Grace Covington! Get your butt down here right now! You're going to be late for school!" yelled my mom from below. I snapped back to reality then glance at the clock.

"Oh damn! 7:15 already?" I then hurriedly put on some jeans and a t-shirt then rush downstairs, hoping I can make it just in time for breakfast, while ignoring the loud rumbling sound coming from my stomach.

When I arrived downstairs, my mom was cleaning up the kitchen table.

"Seriously Mom? Is there still anything else to eat? I'm so hungry I can literally eat two elephants" I whined.

"Well, there's still a lot of yogurt left in the fridge and oh yes, fruits. Tons and tons of fruits." She smiled eagerly.

"Would you like me to grab you an apple, hon?" She continued.

"Um no thanks mom, I'll just uh grab a breakfast bar" I replied. My stomach gurgled.

"Or maybe 2 or 3 more" I said, while grabbing some bars on the counter.

"Fine, but the moment you arrive home, young lady, I want you to eat at least a piece of fruit. " she countered, bossily.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "Whatever mom. I'm off to school. See you later" I grinned, finally seizing the chance to escape.

"Bye sweetie pie! Have fun and behave!" She smiled.

I then kissed her on the cheek then head out the door.
