YELLOW RAYS PEEKED THROUGH THE CRACKS IN THE ZIPPER OF ASTRIDS TENT. she rubbed her eyes and rolled over, to see rory had already woken up and was somewhere in camp.astrid pulled on her green cargo trousers, along with her black vest top. then, she slipped her doc martens on and stumbled out of the tent. the brunette squinted and pressed her hand against her forehead, trying to block out the blinding light from the sun.
she spotted glenn, who was stood frustratedly with his arms crossed and a frown on his usually jovial face. "look at em." glenn spoke to astrid, who had moved to stand by his side and see what had earned his foul mood. "vultures. yeah go on, strip it clean." he snarked at the men who were disassembling the sports car he had stolen the previous day. though, there was slight humour in his tone.
"generators need every drop of fuel they can get." dale reasoned, "got no power without it. sorry, glenn." dale always had a good reason for everything he did.
"thought i'd get to drive it a few more days." he whined, shaking his head.
astrid patted him on the shoulder, "we'll steal you a new one someday." glenn gave her a small grin, a hopeful gleam dancing across his eyes.
"waters here, ya'll." shane said as he pulled up to the camp, "just a reminder to boil before use." he stepped out of the car as glenn and astrid moved to pick up the water.
however, they had barely moved two steps when a loud scream crescendoed through the forest. "dad!" carl screamed, followed by a loud squeal that sounded awfully like rory.
astrid dropped the water in a haste and drew one of her knives from her belt. she sprinted to the source of the noise, blinded by the fear of seeing her niece with a large chunk of flesh bitten out of her.
"carl! carl! baby!" lori called worriedly, dashing into the forest towards her son.
carl ran out of the forest, where he was comforted by jaqui. "they weren't bit." the woman heaved, gasping for breath and she knelt on the floor.
astrid, glenn and a few others ran deeper into the forest, where they spotted a walker feasting on a deer, clearly far too busy feeding to notice the array of living flesh two meters away.
shane pushed astrid back as the men took turns attacking the geek with their melee weapons, none of them delivering the killing blow until dale finally chopped the disease-ridden creatures head off. "its the first one we've had up here. they're never come this far up the mountain." the older man said, worry dripping from his voice as he turned to look at the residents of the camp who had came to see what was going on.
jim had a reason, "well the foods running out in the city, thats what." that was not good. if one walker had wandered up to them, who wasn't to say others weren't far behind? how long would it be until they were overrun?
branches snapped as someone, or something, made its way towards the campers. everyone had their weapons raised, ready to face the danger, when daryl dixon came into view. "oh, jesus." shane sighed. everyone lowered their weapons, though it was hesitant. everyone knew of the dixons fury, merle displayed it most often, but everyone was sure daryl was capable of some nasty things when he got angry - and he was about to see his dinner being eaten by a reanimated corpse.
"son of a bitch." the redneck started, storming closer to the group, "thats mah deer! look at it. all gnawed on by this.." he started kicking the walker, "filthy, disease-bearin', motherless, poxy bastard!" each word was spoken with more venom as his temper grew strained.
"did you just call a walker 'motherless'?" astrid failed to bite her tongue. now was not the occasion to piss off an already furious dixon, but the damage was already done at this point.
