Chris sat at the table, waiting patiently.
Chris had been sitting at the cafe for over an hour, now. Hoping: praying - that somebody would approach him and sit down with him or start a conversation.
To no avail, did Chris ever interact with any of the customers: an entire room full of people without masks covering their mouth; and not a single soul decided to open it and speak to him - except for one man, who breezed by his table and uttered the word, "faggot," to him as he passed.
Chris could have 'shot back,' so to speak, however if he had done that: a fight would have broken out inside the cafe.
Instead: he decided to take one more sip of his coffee and then pack up his purse and; go home. Home: something unfamiliar to him, since there was nobody waiting for him to arrive.
"Chris!" Baxter shouted, as he entered the store.
"Doctor?" Chris replied, turning his head to look at him.
Baxter sat down at the same table, and unloaded his satchel onto the floor.
"What happened last night?"
Chris pushed his coffee; upwards and tapped his fingers on the table, slightly.
"I just want someone to love me."
"How? How can we show you love?"
Chris sighed, and then looked out the window at the pedestrians. "Oh you know: the regular shtick: coffee date, second date, third date; home run. Then maybe, marriage and a dog or some shit, like that."
"Like what? Do you want marriage?"
"Yeah-" "Then why don't you talk to those pretty girls, over there?" The doctor said; pointing towards a group of women sitting at a table; one glancing over towards Chris and the doctor.
"I don't like girls-" "Oh for fuck sakes! Don't give me that, bull shit! You're as much of a brother as the rest of us!"
"Am I? Look at my face!" "Your face has nothing to do with it!" The doctor shouted; and the cafe went silent for a moment.
"Listen: why are you refraining from intercourse?"
"If one of these guys would just approach me-"
"You know as well as I do: that's not going to happen. You're a man, they're women - and I'm a man: and officer Wendall, well - he's a man too, I believe."
Chris glanced to the side, momentarily; then back at the doctor.
"Try it: go talk to that girl over there. I bet she'd love to get to know you."
Chris glanced over at her, and then noticed that it was somebody familiar.
"Is that.. Taylor?"
