Quinn woke up the next morning after being practically waterboarded by Maria.

At some point in Quinn's four hours of sleep, Maria thought it would Quinn get up faster if she filled a bowl with water and poured it over her.

The result: Quinn jumping up and Maria slapping her across the face halfway.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?!" Maria yelled in Spanish.

"Why were you trying to kill me?" Quinn combated.

"You need to watch the twins while I go out," Maria explained, her voice getting quieter. "I have a meeting."

Quinn knew what 'meeting' meant.

She wondered who the new boy toy was this week. The latest was an asshole who thought Argentina was in Europe, so that was an amusing experience. Still, why couldn't she just drop them off at daycare?

Quinn then realized it was because it was the last time Maria had a free daycare service.

"Have fun with your new boy toy," Quinn replied. "Hope he knows what's in his future."

Once Maria left, Quinn cleaned up where she was sleeping on the floor. It was always the same place on the ground in the small area between where the rug ended and the wall. She took a towel from the bathroom and laid it on top of the water.

Quinn watched as the light blue towel turned a shade of dark blue. Once all the water had been soaked up, she picked it up and put it in the white, plastic laundry bin by the door.

Quinn walked into the twin's room to check on them. To her surprise, Dylan and Maya were already awake. She leaned against the doorway as they appeared to be chasing each other around the room. It took them a total of fifteen minutes until they realized she was watching them.

They were the only people that ever lit up when they saw her. They ran towards the door and hugged Quinn's legs.

If you can't tell, they barely ever see her. Normally during the weekends, her uncle takes them out to Coney Island or some sort of excursion while Maria has them at daycare from seven a.m. to eight p.m. during the weekdays.

"Do y'all want breakfast or not?" She asked, her voice noticeably kinder.

They nodded in unison. She kissed them both on the forehead and took their hands in hers. Quinn decided to treat the twins.

For breakfast, they rode the subway to a nearby bakery. Their eyes instantly lit up at the sight. Thankfully, the bakery was nearly empty, despite the staff, and the twins could run up to the showcases of pastries.

"Can we get the sugar cookies?" Dylan asked, pointing at palm trees and coconut sugar cookies.

"You don't have to ask," Quinn answered, "Feel free to get as much as you want."

The twins both grinned and turned back to searching for different types of pastries.

It wasn't until people started to crowd the bakery that the twins finally decided what they wanted. The order was heavy but surprisingly cheap since she got a discount from the cashier, a dark-skinned curly-haired boy who flirted with Quinn for twenty minutes.

She gave him the rejection line number when he asked.

Quinn and the twins left with two boxes of different pastries. Most of them were sugar cookies and conchas.

Once they got home, Quinn evenly split the deserts among the three of them onto plates. She handed a plate to Maya and then Dylan who both fitted themselves into the recliner.
