It goes without saying that there are some less then fun, but important parts of this rabbit hole we're getting into. Listen up travelers, because there's a few things you're going to need to know before getting into the more exciting parts of witchcraft.
Do not jump into spells and deity work as soon as you start. I know they look fun and exciting, we'll get there I promise. However, before that it's worth knowing what you're getting into, otherwise intentions could be misconstrued. Practice grounding yourself, familiarize yourself with the meanings behind the ingredients you're going to use in spells, and know about your deity before trying to engage in contacting them.
Research, research, research. I can not stress enough how important it is to look things up on your own as well, books and the internet are both great sources to make sure you know what you're doing beforehand. As beautiful as witchcraft is, it can be dangerous if not done correctly. I highly recommend recreational witchcraft by lyra black as a good place to start.
Protection is so important, it can be something as simple as carrying cleansed crystals with you where you go, or lighting incense in your room. The energy around you is a key part to making sure your intentions are getting through properly. I will touch on more protection options later on.
Everything, and I mean everything can be substituted. Your craft doesn't require expensive, impossible to find ingredients and tools. If it's serving it's purpose then that's enough, it's more important to have the intention there over something that will make your craft a financial burden. Witches have been practicing for many many years using mostly what's just around us, so that Pinterest post that says you must have the most expensive tools or it won't work is pure bull shit.
