Desti entered the door to the home she was staying in. Sam went in after checking the mail and closed the door behind him. “So… about what happened earlier…”
“Listen Sam, let’s just forget that ever happened, Alright?”
“Easier said than done.”
“Just don’t tell anyone about it. I don’t need word to spread about the fact that I’m living on the surface now.”
“My lips are sealed Des.”
Desti soon became shocked at what she had heard. “W-What did you just call me?”
Sam realized that what he had said might have offended Desti.”I-I’m sorry if I had offended you.”
“No no! You didn’t offend me. It’s just… that’s what Ben used to me before he was…” A tear slid down her cheek.
“Was he your uh… your... “
Desti nods her head as she wiped away the tear. “If you were trying to ask if he was my boyfriend, then yes, yes he was.”
“What happened to him if you don’t mind me asking?”
“He… He was killed by my sister.” Desti now had her head in her hands as she cried.
“I’m… I’m so sorry.” Sam walked over to Desti and gave her a comforting hug. She buried her face into his shoulder and continued crying. "There, there, everything's gonna be alright," he said while patting her back.
Desti eventually calmed down enough and stopped crying. She backed away from Sam and looked at him. "I uh… I guess I haven't moved on from his death yet."
"That's okay," Sam reassured. He slid a hand down her arm and grasped her hand in his. "Everything will be alright, trust me." He gave her a friendly smile and she smiled back. They leaned closer together but soon backed apart as they heard the doorknob start to turn. The door slowly started to open.
"I'll see you tomorrow Red."
"Okie dokie."
Sam looked back to Desti. "Welp, my sister's home."
"Yup. She sure is."
Meggy backed into her home and turned around to see that both Sam and Desti were looking at her. "Did I interrupt something?" She asked while closing the door behind her.
"No not really," Sam responded. "Busy night with your boyfriend?"
"We just went to a restaurant and had dinner together."
"Uh huh. So I guess that means that I'm gonna have to make dinner for only Desti and me."
"Just relax Sam, I'll make the two of you dinner." Meggy was about to go into the kitchen when she noticed that Desti's eyes were puffy from crying earlier. "You alright Desti? Your eyes are looking a little red there."
"Huh, yeah. I'm fine."
"If you say so. Instant Noodles sound fine to the two of you?"
"Sure."
"Why not? It wouldn't hurt for me to try some."
"Alright, I'll go make some up for ya." Meggy went into the kitchen to prepare dinner. A few minutes later and they were each enjoying a cup of Instant Noodles.
"Let me tell you something," Sam said while eating his noodles, "my sister might be a terrible cook…"
"HEY!"
"...but she can make some mighty fine noodles."
Desti slurped up a long noodle. "She sure can."
Meggy rolled her eyes and punched her brother in the shoulder. "I'm not a terrible cook, I'm just inexperienced at it."
"Hmmm. I wonder why?"
"I'll tell you why, it's because you never bothered to teach me like you promised."
"It's because I've been too busy to teach you."
"Yeah, too busy sitting on your ass every day playing video games."
"Hey, I do not sit on my ass every day, I help out."
"Yeah, when I ask you to!"
Sam and Meggy were both on their feet yelling at each other.
“I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WE’RE HAVING THIS ARGUMENT AGAIN!”
“NEITHER CAN I!”
While they argued, neither of them noticed Desti sneak off to finish her noodles in her room. By the time they had finished their argument, the sun was already starting to peak above the horizon. Desti woke up and made her way to the dinning room where Meggy was already sitting at the table. "Morning."
Meggy looked at Desti. "Morning. Sam's making breakfast."
"Alright." She sat down at the table as Sam prepared breakfast.
