Liberty could feel her heart speed up and her breathing becoming heavier and heavier. She sat against the door and put her head in her lap, tears falling from her eyelids. She felt guilt. She felt remorse. But more importantly she felt sadness.
“Liberty? Hun what’s wrong?” Her mother said noticing her daughter against the door. But before the little girl could answer there was a loud ‘Knock’ on the door. Liberty quickly got up and ran behind her mother, her mother the one that had always protected her from the evil in the world. The woman walked towards the door and opened it, to find a kindly looking man in a blue police outfit.
“Hello mam’” He said grinning. Liberty’s grasp on her mother’s apron loosened a bit as she saw the man’s smile.
“Why hello officer, won’t you come in?” Her mother smiled a smile Liberty had never seen before, this peculiar smile. The police officer was a sturdy man with a balanced build a short black hair, matching his bushy jet black mustache. As he stepped in Liberty’s mother stepped back, the little girl followed suit.
“Replacement, replacement such a terrible thing Liberty will be next since, nobody loves her, everybody hates her, their all out to get her, and so she should just run.” The song played loudly ringing through the house, sung by the voice that Liberty despised so much. Liberty looked up quickly expecting everyone to scream but no one seemed to hear it, they just stood talking and smiling. Why was she the only one to hear it?! Liberty had toned out the two adults talking only standing there shaking from fear. She wanted to disappear but more importantly she wanted the doll to disappear. Then she saw it, she saw that man, that stranger grab hold of her mother’s hand. Her mother was actually smiling and put her other hand a top of his, a giddy smile that made her look like a fool. Finally he left leaving her mother to twirl in a circle and squeal like a little girl.
“Mommy what did he want?” Liberty said looking up at the blonde woman. The woman looked down at her daughter, her own flesh and blood like she just remembered she existed, as if she had been in her own fantasy.
“Oh he was asking about a girl.” Her mother answered softly and turned to pick up the basket of unfolded clothes she had left on the floor nearby.
“Wha-What happened to the girl?” Liberty stuttered, her voice shaking as she stood there in petrified fear.
“A little girl that was killed, the killer took one of her eyeballs.” Her mother answered shaking her head. The little girl fainted as she to in that last word, Eyeball.
