Liza POV:-
It's been two days since that news about the transfer, fused my brain. Until yesterday, when my best friend called me and gave me a shock of this decade. Well, she is getting married!!!. That's not the worst part, she is getting married in Seattle! And she wants me at her wedding, Just what I needed to add to my already overflowing plate of worries. Great! We have been friends for the past 20 years, we went to the same school and college and we were supposed to join the same firm after college but, I denied it! I wanted to be alone and wanted to make a name for myself all alone. So, I moved to Chicago and joined this firm. She was super mad at me for a long time and later, made peace with this fact. But, now if I deny attending her wedding I would be dead meat, and trust me when I say she is half-Asian and knows kungfu. So, here I am at the entrance of my boss's cabin ready to accept my transfer.
"May I come in?" I asked opening the door of her cabin.
"Yes, Liza come in. What did you think about the transfer" she asked straight to the point with a little hope in her eyes.
"I'm in! I'll take the offer!" I said it with a heavy heart. I know I'll regret it but I have no choice and all the indicators are implying in the same way.
"Really!" she said standing from her chair.
"Yes!" I nodded.
She came and hugged me and crashed me into her arms. I chuckled looking at her reaction.
"You have no idea, Liza. You just saved our company, and don't worry about your travel and accommodation expenses, our company will bear all the expenses for the next two years" she exclaimed joyously.
" I had no idea, me going to Seattle is that important for the company," I said playfully.
"Yeah! we have a client there who is unapologetically ruthless. Seattle-based chief technical architect is the one who is dealing with his project but recently he suffered a heart attack and died" she said with a tinge of sadness.
"OMG! I am so sorry for the loss," I said, with a bleak voice.
"Yeah! he was a great man, at the age of 55, he was so full of life and energy. Everyone in the company loved him and his demise left everyone in a state of shock. But the client wants us to appoint a new chief technical architect by today or else he warned us about the withdrawal of the project." She completed it with a sigh.
"What the heck!" I exclaimed. " Is he, not a human, does he not have any emotions, how come, someone, is so ruthless and unempathetic."
" I know right? That's the reason I choose you. You are the perfect fit for that client." she said with a grin on her face.
I scoffed at her statement, " I just hope to be alive by the end of these two years" I said with a bleak tone.
"Oh! please! you are just overreacting, You just have to deal with the team, and if my guess is right you won't be seeing more than twice in these two years but you know if there is some emergency you just have to cooperate more, that's it," she said it as if it's not a big deal.
"I really hope so, by the way, when am I leaving?" I asked her
"Day after tomorrow!" she answered.
"What?"
"I know this is very short notice but, you have to take charge from this Monday" she pleaded. " I wouldn't care about the client but it's a big project and they are powerful in that city and withdrawal of this project will affect our other projects too," She added.
