Steve glanced at his friend. "Are you ready for this?"

Bucky let out a sigh. "I think so. God, I wonder if my dad felt this nervous."

"Probably. Do you want me to stay?"

"And make things even more awkward? No. Maybe tune into a radio show or something. I'll see you later."

He nodded. "Good luck, Buck."

"Thanks."

Steve waved and left just as Alice walked up.

Bucky smiled. "Hey, doll."

"Hi," she replied. "Is everything all right? You sounded nervous when you called for me."

"Everything's fine. Might I blindfold you?"

"For a surprise?"

"Yes."

"Sure."

Bucky pulled out a cloth and tied it around her head, covering her eyes. "Can you see?"

"No," she answered. "Bucky, what's going on?"

He smiled. "You'll just have to wait and see. Okay, I'm taking your arm now." He lifted her arm and linked it through his right arm. "I'll guide you."

Alice nodded. "Okay."

Bucky led to where they'd first met and let out a soft, nervous sigh. "Okay."

"Can I take the blindfold off?"

"Yeah."

Alice pulled the blindfold off and noticed books surrounding them and Bucky standing in front of her.

Bucky smiled. "Alice, one thing I've always admired about you is your independence, and it's been a joy getting to be witness to that. From the day we met here, 18 years to the day, I think in my heart I decided, though I didn't realize, that we'd be here one day in this very moment." He knelt to the ground, pulled out a small box and opened it. "Alice Hoyer, will you do me the honor in making me the happiest man alive by becoming my bride?"

Alice nodded. "Yes, I will."

Bucky pulled the ring out and slipped it on her left ring finger.

She studied it with a soft smile. "It's beautiful, Buck." She kissed him. "I can't wait for this next chapter."

"Nor can I. From now til the end of time I'm yours."

"As am I."
