Alice left the diner she'd started waitressing at and began her trek home.

She passed her friend who didn't seem his normal self. "Steve? Is everything all right?"

He shook his head. "No. Um, my mom..."

"Is she all right?"

"She died. Like your mom."

"Oh, Steve, I'm so sorry. If there's anything I can do, let me know."

"I'll be okay, Alice."

"I'm sure you will, but one shouldn't be alone during this time. Does Bucky know?"

"Do I know what?" Bucky asked as he walked up.

"Steve's mother passed. Consumption like my mom."

"I'm sorry. You okay?"

Steve nodded. "I'm okay. But thanks for checking on me."

Alice smiled. "Steve, we're your friends. Of course we're going to check on you. Do you know when the funeral will be?"

"No, not yet. That's still being decided, but I'll let you know when I find out."

"How about we get some food or ice cream or something?"

"Oh, no, you don't have to do that."

"I want to."

"Am I invited?" Bucky asked.

Alice laughed and smiled. "Of course you are. One can't have the Three Musketeers without three people."

Steve gave a small smile to his friend. "All right, let's go."

The three made their way to an ice cream shop and Alice bought herself and her friends ice cream.

"Thank you, Alice," Steve said quietly.

"Yeah, thank you," Bucky stated.

She nodded. "Of course."

A tense, but comfortable silence fell over the three as they ate their ice cream.
