Warning: Violence, blood, and death in this chapter
When she was a little girl, Prin would often read her bedtime stories.Stories of fantasy and adventure. Of worlds filled with wonder and magic. Where dreams and happy endings lived and everyone was happy and content. Of heroes fighting for the right thing and coming out victorious in the end.
Reality wasn’t anything like the story books.
When Uzi reached the age of ten, she secretly trained herself for combat, sneaking brooms into her room to practice sword fighting and climbing trees in the garden to hone her agility. Of course, the maids and butlers all tried to stop, trying to move her away from such ‘roughian’ activities.
She never stopped.
Years of practice and sneaking about the mansion had given her skills that no other noblewoman would dare try to harness.
And yet, it wasn’t enough when a situation appeared.
In some part of her mind, Uzi knew it was stupid of her to run headlong into danger without a proper weapon and ignoring Prin’s advice to seek out a guard or knight to handle the situation, but when she witness a pair of noblewoman, a pair of young girls around the same age as her, being taken against their will in, broad daylight no less, she couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
Rushing in the alley, she saw cloaked figures holding the struggling pair, pressing cloths against their faces to muffle their screams and cries for help. She didn’t have a plan and she didn’t have time for one, so Uzi acted on the first thing she could think of.
Her hand reached down under her dress, yanking out the dagger Abigail had given her that morning and flung it at one of the cloaked figures. She was aiming for the head, but the cloaked figure shifted to the side at the last second, letting the blade slide by their head. The girl struggling in their grasp took the moment of distraction to stomp her heel in her captor’s foot, causing them to yell out in pain and giving Uzi enough time to run over and clock them in the jaw.
The figure stumbled back, letting go of their captive in the process. Uzi went to throw another punch, but something yanked on her hair, throwing her in another direction.
She slammed against the wall, pain blossoming in her head. Her mind was spinning, letting her guard down for an arm to pin her against a thick body and something sweet smelling to be pressed against her face. She tried to fight it off, but the pain in her head and the strength of her attacker made it difficult to escape and soon.
Her world went black.
That was all Uzi could remember when she finally awoke.
And thinking back on it, Uzi cursed at her carelessness.
Not only had she rushed into a situation she was never prepared for, but now she was tied up alongside the two girls she was trying to save.
Waking up in the dark hadn’t startled Uzi when her consciousness returned, and for a moment she thought she was in her room back at the mansion laying on the floor. Uzi always had strange habits, and sometimes those strange habits along with her research kept her up all night long that she sometimes passed out in odd places from exhaustion.
When her eyes adjusted to the dark and she registered the dull pain in her head and her limbs tied up, the memories of early came rushing in when she spied the two girls she had been trying to save laying against the opposite wall from her.
