The story is not mine and nor was it written by me. It belong to NightingaleWitch7 on ao3. I just wanted to share the story they wrote

The wait had been tedious, but as soon as the first rays of sunlight broke through the sky, Uzi was more than ready to get out of there.

Her ankle wasn't going to make it easy on her. She couldn't put much force down on it before she collapsed in pain. So much to her irritation, she had to use the walls to support her weight.

Walking with a limp wasn't easy, and it wasn't very fast either. She had to hop each time she moved her wounded foot and most of the walls didn't seem stable in her eyes. The puppy wasn't giving her much trouble though.

The little creature had been hesitant to follow her at first, but came running when she called for it. It raced past her, running up and down the cracked hallways, climbing down the broken stairs, and ran circles around the courtyard. It was honestly very cute to watch, but Uzi was more focused on getting out of there than cooing at the cute scene.

The stairs were tricky to climb down from, so she had to resort to crawling down it to avoid falling. It was a bit awkward, and it brought a few memories of her childhood to mind, but she swatted it away and focused on escaping. Once she reached the bottom of the steps, she resumed using the wall for support, slowly making her way towards the closest exit.

It took a while before she reached a large hole in the wall that led out into the forest, looking out into the thicket and wilderness beyond. Leaves swayed in the breeze, shifting the branches in the trees. Birds sang deep inside, singing sweet melodies that were upbeat and happy.

Looking at the forest like this, one wouldn't think that there were dangerous creatures living inside.

But at night, it was a different story.

One she didn't want to get caught up in when night fell.

Steeling her will, she called for the puppy and slowly made her way into the forest.

There were a few things that became apparent to her as she limped in the forest.

The first being was that she needed something to lean on so she didn't put too much weight on her ankle. Something she should have done right away when she left the wall of the outpost. Instead, she stubbornly continued on, dragging her foot at a snail's pace, limping to the closest tree she could lean against before going for the next.

It was slow and tedious and it took her far too long to think of a simpler solution to her problem. It never occurred to her that she could use the sticks and branches littered on the ground below her very feet. Not till the puppy came scrambling up to her with a stick in its mouth and wagging its little tail at her, wanting to play. Deciding she could indulge the little creature for a while, Uzi played with the puppy in a small clearing, throwing the sticks it brought to her and watched as the small bundle of dark matted fur raced after it with its tiny stubby little legs.

This went on for a while till Uzi deemed that they should continue with their journey, though struggled to stand as her ankle gave her some trouble and there were no trees near her to give her any support. Uzi struggled to get off the ground, and kept tumbling back down till the puppy, still wanting to play, brought Uzi a large fresh branch that had seemed to have fallen off a tree recently and was far bigger than its own body.
