Sei and Toni were best friends who grew up together. Truth was Toni had been crushing on Sei for a long time but didn't want to ruin their friendship by asking him out. So Toni had contented herself with just being able to hang out with Sei.
"Toni! Over here!"
"Coming Sei!"
Toni replied as she ran to where Sei was sitting under a shady tree.
She plopped down in front of him, crossing her legs.
"What are we doing today?"
she asked, her beautiful crystallized eyes sparkling. Sei looked up and grinned at his friend. He always loved her eyes, which is why he never really understood why she was so self-conscious about them. Toni had always had the most gorgeous blue eyes that looked like crystal shards. But because of how they looked, the other children in school would always tease her, and make her cry.
She had even asked Sei once if he thought they were strange, to which Sei answered yes, and that's what made them beautiful. Sei always told her not to let what other people said get her down and that her eyes were special. Toni had cried happily and hugged him.
Sei and Toni would go to the local bookstore every Saturday to buy comic books. Today they were supposed to be buying new volumes of their favorite series, The Adventures of the Silver-Haired Swordsman, but since Sei was still waiting for his allowance, he couldn't buy anything.
"Sei, do you think that the silver-haired swordsman is a real person?"
Toni asked him.
"Hmm... I'm not sure,"
Sei replied.
"He could be a myth or maybe a story someone made up. Or he could be real."
Toni smiled and then looked thoughtful.
"Do you want him to be real?"
Sei asked her.
"Yeah. I want to see him,"Toni said.
"Well, if he is real, then one day you will,"
Sei said smiling at his friend.
Toni grinned back, Sei looked up and sighed. He felt his heart fluttering at her little grin and his cheeks turned slightly pink. He was glad that she didn't notice.
"Sei, have you found a job yet?"
Toni asked.
"Uh, not yet. There's a restaurant nearby that's hiring but the owner is an ass. He says that I can't work there unless I can beat his best employee in a fight. I'm not going to stoop that low,"
Sei said, his brow furrowing in anger.
"Sei..."
Toni said, reaching over to pat her friend's hand.
"Sorry,"
