Prologue: Kitsune
There once lived a great deity like being that was said to hold unimaginable powers and psychic abilities. A being with the form of a human but with fox ears and tails. This being was known as a kitsune.
The kitsune became fascinated by mankind and occasional watched their progression from afar. That was the way the being went about the earlier years of its existence until one day it came across a certain village plagued by misfortune.
The being became the protector of the village. It shielded the villagers from the darkness, brought life to their crops, and assisted in establishing a brilliant standard of living for the villagers. The being soon became worshipped and loved by the humans due to this.
But why is it you do not know of this being you may ask yourself? If there was such a being as the one in this story then why was it that you had never heard of it before now? Listen well and I will reveal the tragic tale of the village deity.
Over countless years the deity did not fail to protect the villagers until one fateful night. It was a full moon on that night, a blood moon to be more precise. That is when a stray Oni, a creature of the shadows, had slipped by unnoticed under the cover of darkness. Both the deity and the villagers were oblivious to the tragedy that was to ensue in that one evening.
The Oni launched an attack against the deity, striking while its guard was lowered and destroying one of its eyes in the scuffle. Due to its injury the deity's protective force around the village dropped. Soon after the village was overrun by many Oni.
It was a bloodbath. It was unlike anything one could have imagined. Crimson soaked the soil, fire swallowed up many homes, and the village soon reaked of death. All of this, as the result of one dark creature slipping by the barrier.
Now despite all of the power that the deity had possessed before, it stood there frozen at the sight of the carnage, unable to do a single thing. All it could muster was pitiful pleas for the creatures to cease their destruction but those pleas went unanswered and unfulfilled.
After that night, the surviving villagers shunned the fox eared being and stripped it of its title as the village's protector. They were spiteful towards the kitsune as they coldly pushed it away into exile from the village. Even though the kitsune had allowed the village to prosper for many years, one mistake voided it all. It may not seem fair but that is just the way the world functions.
It has been exactly one hundred years since that day and the village still bares its battle scars, it is a day that the occupants are not soon to forget. Even though the current villagers were not present on that bloodsoaked day they are still knowledgeable of the story.
Oh what's that? You wish to know what became of the kitsune?
The location of the kitsune is unclear and a few rumours state that the being has already passed onto the next world. I on the other hand still believe the being to be out there, somewhere away from the cruelty of humans.
