It was calm.

It was peaceful.

Some of the staff made beds, set the dinner table, cut roses, and put them in vases.

Some of the staff hoisted up the chandelier, stocked the fireplace with firewood, and moved the vases around.

The radio played in the background:

The weather forecast in Scotland today; don't be fooled by the sunshine you see outside your window. Stormy rain is coming. Dark clouds are on their way. Temperatures will drop. The wind will pick up. Flights and trains might be canceled. Bridges might close to prevent accidents.

An employee trimming the azalea bushes turned and looked at the bridge. Sure enough, there was an old faded yellow sign near the bridge–the only entrance and exit to the island–stating "Storm Warning: Bridge Will Close At 5 pm"

The radio continued. All ferry crossings have been canceled. The weatherman spoke in a thick Scottish accent. So, brace yourselves, folks, it is going to be a cold, dark, and stormy night.

It was calm.

It was peaceful.

But not for long.
